Gay Actors? Public OK but Biz Still Wary
Edited on Sun Feb-11-07 11:32 AM by Fountain79
Some high-profile gay actors have exited the closet recently and the fan reaction has been ... almost nonexistent.

A gay man playing a randy heterosexual on TV? The industry still has its problems but viewers are just shrugging.

On the most recent episode of ABC's "Grey's Anatomy," T.R. Knight's character eloped to Las Vegas with his gorgeous girlfriend. One week earlier, after repeated rounds of vigorous sex, he proposed to her in a scene that was romantic, believable — and groundbreaking.

I find myself agreeing with the article. I didn't even realize that half of the people mentioned were out of the closet or were gay in the first place.

4. Any actor who is really good
can play any role. My favorite actor, Sam Waterston, is straight, but has successfully and convincingly played gay characters in the past. So it would only make sense that gay actors can play heterosexuals--look at Rock Hudson, for heaven's sake!

And do I CARE what their sexual orientation is? Since I do not intend to have a sexual relationship with them, I really don't. Why Hollywood should be concerned is beyond me.

5. I was suprised....
especially as progressive as hollywood likes to present itself. I think it just comes down to their bottom line and how profitable they think a movie can be with their lead actors.

7. it comes down to specifics in hollywood --
actors, directors, make-up artists -- whatever -- are probably open minded -- and the guys and women who sell the movies as an investment and business -- along with agents and management probably not so much to cautious.

but the latter group makes up the group with the power.

i find it interesting though -- folk like george clooney to susan sarandan or even heath ledger's response to playing gay characters may represent a whole crew of open minded people finding their toungues untied.

and THAT will make for an interesting future in hollywood.

6. I agree
What does a person's sexuality have to do with how they perform in their chosen profession? I've never understood that. Either a person is good at what they do or they aren't. A gay mechanic who can fix my car is better than one who is straight who can't just like a gay actor who can play the hell out of a part is better than someone who can't act.

I'm with you. I don't intend to have a sexual relationship with any of these people (gay, straight or bi) but I do enjoy their performances/job when they are putting their heart into it and giving us the best performance they can. Why anyone should be concerned is beyond stupid.
