US navy warned of 'suicide drones' (Iran)
http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,21207873-1702,00.html

IRAN has built "suicide" drones capable of attacking US naval ships and forcing them to leave Gulf waters, said a Revolutionary Guards commander quoted by the semi-official news agency Mehr.

"We have built birds without passengers (drones) that can carry out suicide operations on the US Navy, at any depth if necessary, to make them leave the region in disgrace," said Ali Shoushtari, deputy commander of the Guards' land forces.

Warning about a "defeat for the enemy", Shoushtari said: "Americans know that if they confront the Islamic system, they wil not be secure in the region or at home."

Last week Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowed to hit back at US interests worldwide if it attacked the Islamic republic to thwart its nuclear programme.

Iranian UAV buzzes USS Ronald Reagan (from 2006)

http://www.today.az/news/politics/26813.html

Azerbaijan's Trend news agency reported on May 31 that according to an unidentified senior Iranian official, "our pilotless reconnaissance plane flew over the USS Ronald Reagan in the Persian Gulf unnoticed to the Americans for 25 minutes," according to Iran's Fars news agency.

According to the United Press International, while the official declined to give an exact date and time for the flight, he added that U.S. military radars tracked the UAV after 25 minutes, but although four fighters and two helicopters were sent to intercept it the UAV crossed the border back into Iran and landed before interception.

The official boasted, "This points to holes in the U.S. military reconnaissance systems deployed in the Persian Gulf."

The United States and its coalition partners currently have about 45 vessels in the Gulf and Red Sea region, including the USS Ronald Reagan, the Navy's newest aircraft carrier, and five escorts.

1. 'Drones of death' hit by Tornados (Iraq 1998)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/events/crisis_in_the_gulf/forces_and_firepower/238483.stm

The UK said on Saturday it had "severely dented" Saddam Hussein's capacity to build deadly drones capable of wiping out millions of people with anthrax.

Defence Secretary George Robertson told a news conference at the Ministry of Defence in London it was thought Saddam Hussein was planning to deploy these "drones of death" in southern Iraq.

He said the Iraqi leader had ordered work to begin in 1995 on the unmanned planes, codenamed L29s.

Mr Robertson said: "They have two under-wing weapon stores containing 300 litres of anthrax.

4. It's a war of propaganda *supposedly* waged by both sides
It could come from "semi-official" Iranian sources - or, it could be false-flag US black ops nonsense (e.g., Iraqi yellowcake from Niger) like we saw before the invasion of Iraq.

Either way it flames war hysteria...

6. False flag using the official Iranian news agency?
Without a denial from Iran itself by now?

That's why I don't understand the... firm certainty shown by you and others in suggesting this is the work of the US.

3. I'm quite certain we wouldn't have to worry at all about "drones" if
we would exercise some basic common sense and get most of our military the hell out of the ME.

ENERGY INDEPENDENCE AND SELF-SUFFICIENCY NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

EMERGENCY CONSERVATION MEASURES NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

BE PATRIOTIC!!!!!!!! CONSERVE ENERGY!!!!!!!!!!!

5. There are also very slow, quiet drone/torpedoes
Like this: http://www.milnet.com/pentagon/navy/auv/AUV-Brief.htm

These are torpedo like devices with the difference being that they are slower and used for a wide variety of tasks. Some of these devices have no propulsion systems at all and glide like sailplanes in the air using changes in density to drop or lift. In effect you could have a programmable, totally silent mine that moves towards it's target area from a remote location. On location it could come to the surface at specific times of day and be reprogrammed to respond to different stimuli. Instructions like: "lie on the bottom until you hear a large prop noise, go to that noise and blow up."

Nobody knows if Iran has any of these types of vehicles or if they work. We do know that they are cheap and the tech to build them is off the shelf.

Does look familiar doesn't it.

The US Navy would be ill advised to be arrogant in Persian Gulf waters.

9. Whether this is true or not, the U.S. military would send UAVs to buzz Iranian ships
if they were parked off shore near D.C. or New York.

Hell, they would do more than just send a few model airplanes or drones.
