This is a complete waste of time. I'm going to call Diane Feinstein's office.
And I'm going to object to the MoveOn censure.

The only reason I'm going to do it is, if I don't, I'm on the slide, too. If I don't call, then I can't possibly criticize all the Senators who made a calculation today and chose the easy way out.

We're in deep doodoo, folks, when our own party votes to censure one of our most effective recruiters. And meanwhile, BushCo is fixing to bomb Iran.

Please join me in this useless exercise if your damn Senator voted for this red herring.

Need I say more?

And no, I'm not proud of this fact, just thoroughly disgusted. But you might find comfort in knowing someone else has it worse.

48. Schumer too
Moveon was conceived to move things along with the faux-impeachment, so Clinton isn't going to stab them in the back yet (Schumer also played defense*). Leahy is the only shocker, besides Cantwell skipping town on her microserf roots. Feinstein seems as responsive to disapproval as Lieberman, meaning complaints probably stiffen her resolve, but Boxer might have a clue WTF happened.

To express the sense of the Senate that General David H. Petraeus, Commanding General, Multi-National Force-Iraq, deserves the full support of the Senate and strongly condemn personal attacks on the honor and integrity of General Petraeus and all members of the United States Armed Forces.

9. Mine:
Senator Feinstein,

I was appalled by your vote on the Cornyn amendment today and in response, I have joined MoveOn.

As you well know, Gen. Petraeus lied to the media about mobile weapons labs. He lied to Congress last week when he said he was not arming tribals in Iraq. He has been linked, in the New York Times, to kickbacks on arms deals. In reality, MoveOn was too gentle in their condemnation of him.

You are about to retire so you have nothing to lose -- nothing but your legacy.

13. Go Beth!
This auto-respect for army personnell is unsound and militaristic, and the moveon.org was right in criticising Petraeus. The US soldiers was prepared for a scenario with rose leaves strewn all the way to Baghdad and now the rose leaves are pulled out again, for show. The troops pay the price every time you smell the rose fragrance around Iraq, not Petraeus.

Yes, all of that.

But the other thing is, the auto-respect for military personnel does not extend to Democratic war heroes, who are routinely smeared by the same assholes who are pretending to be outraged by the Petraeus ad.

Well, actually, I think he would do diddly - or at least diddle diddly - He's among the reddest of the reds. When he came into my bookstore a few years ago begging for votes, I said that I was a Dem and politely opened the door for him to leave. The twerp came back not 15 minutes later and asked if I'd reconsider. What an ass.

When did the people in this country lose their power? What ever became of the idea that they are elected to represent us - the 80% who want this freaking war over?!

So like the Repubs to divert attention from the wretched war by throwing crap at MoveOn -"Oh, look! Something shiny over there." Pity is, it works for them every time.
