In defense of our elected democratic senators
No, won't defend certain actions. But I will say:

Day after day I read the websites and press releases of our senators. And I see more and more being introduced and fought for which never sees the light of day.

Steps in the right direction, steps away from the where the right has put us and to the left. Not always as large as steps as we like, but better small ones away from this mess than steps deeper into it.

I tried to call Feinstein's office yesterday - message was they were having a busy spell and to call back later. Same with Boxer (though she did give the # for her SF office which I called and was able to leave a message at).

Was I calling about the moveon.org thing? No, to be honest I was calling them before I read about that whole thing here.

I was calling about health care, about a wife with a disease and not having any coverage and maybe not able to get any. A wife who needs meds, which are running low.

I am sure we will find a solution to this problem eventually, but I called them so I could put one more face and one more story behind the plight, to urge them on to finding some solution and that there are people out there suffering every day - and each day it is delayed more people are hurting and some dying. More will die from lack of health care than terror attacks, more will suffer long term affects as well from lack of coverage.

The real war is here already on our own soil, and the enemy is us. We fight against our own people daily from rw hate shows to the internet. The people we have sent into battle for us up the hill..well they just don't always have the tools to finish the job and move us forward.

The enemy called rw fundie conservatism is trying to stop us, and we spend too much energy helping them out sometimes.

I am not calling them today. I am calling the R's in office and telling them there is no greater enemy they shall face next election than a man whose family is suffering because our dollars are taken away from aiding people here to kill people elsewhere.

I will tell them I did not elect them, and they can expect not only to not get my vote, but that I and others will actively work to have their asses tossed out on the streets and replaced. I'll hold my good cards, even if the hand I have does not seem to be a winning one, I know it is better than their hand - and when their bluff is called I and others americans will walk away from the table with more than we started with - even if it is not the huge jackpot we wanted this go around.

If you want to see each day (though some only update once a week) what our dems are trying to do, go here:
http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

They will piss me off, they will do things that will incur an angry post from time to time by me, and I will still hold their feet to the fire - comes with the job ya know :) But the people who will be getting my hate mails have a different letter next to their name, and they will be hearing from me quite often. So will our rw local talk shows.

And I will try to post more as well about what the R senators are trying to slip in (based on their press releases) - because the real threat to our safety is a group of homegrown selfish bastards.

CARROT TOP FOR PRESIDENT!

1. What a beautiful and sensible post. This is a literate reminder for us all not to take our eye of the...
ball and not to throw the baby out with the bathwater. At the end of the day activism is worthless unless it is constructive and centered on that which can be accomplished. We are not always going to be happy with our representation.Sometimes we will be mad as hell but we have an obligation to look at the good they do as well.Keep up those phone calls Straight Story and get going after those who are the "real" enemy, the Republicans!

6. I think you summed it up better than I did:
"Sometimes we will be mad as hell but we have an obligation to look at the good they do as well"

I should have kept it shorter and more simple :)

2. Excellent, a call to arms if I ever heard one, if we want change we have to continue
to fight for it it won't just happen, we can't give up, there is too much at stake, don't let them force us into a whining position, that which is surely what they would like to see, how much are we willing to give up of ourselves, our families, our time and our comforts to ensure the change we desire will push forth...

If you feel you have come up against a brick wall don't forget that there is always a way to find a way to get through, no obstacle that I know of cannot be bypassed if enough thought and energy is used in finding a way to surpass it.

Who was it that said? "We Shall Overcome" I believe he did and we can do the same...

3. We will overcome, just sucks being in the down pour while leaders
stand in the shelter and debate about how to give us an umbrella.
