Poll question: If Gore declares he's running in the primaries, would you change your vote?
Have you settled on a candidate?

Would you change your vote or stick with your candidate?

Just trying to get a feeling for DU'ers level of commitment to the current field.

Thank you in advance for participating!

1. I am not voting.
That shit will get you jury duty in California.

Besides, I live in Marin County where everyone votes straight ticket Dem.

26. Oh, I am serious alright.
I am always serious.

And I don't really give a damn about politics or politicians, per se.

I have no preferences as far as the candidates are concerned.

For I am about right and wrong.

And I mean right and wrong as I see right and wrong.

I care not what anyone else thinks or believes. You see, that is just the way I am wired.

But I am passionate about Veterans' Affairs. And Human Rights. And the Environment.

You look around today's Congress and tell me why I should give a damn.

Sell-outs, every goddamned one of them.

30. Well, if you say so, I respect that, but I don't understand how we will have...
... the things you care about if we don't' have non-sell outs in office.

Were it not for things legislated like the GI bill, or Veterans Administration, the Bill of Rights, plus a lot of hard fucking work by "the people", we wouldn't have the number of programs that do help, albeit in an inperfect form.

The only way I have of making a difference, at least locally IS to vote. Voting, and doing whatever other godamned thing you have to so that we can progress to whatever the next level is. I worked hard to candidates, but I also have done my part to push candidates out of the picture who don't deserve to stay in office. Beats hitting them over the head, and it's our right.

It's a choice that can make the difference, so I'll keep fighting for that right. Maybe some day you'll feel differently.

Hang in there.

59. Passionate about Veterans' affairs, et. al.
But not passionate enough to actually vote, right? You care passionately about the environment, but not enough to risk jury duty.

That's quite the Profile In Courage you've got going on there.

60. As I said, I live in Marin County.
Everyone votes Dem.

My vote would not make one bit of difference.

Environment/jury? Are you talking about a littering case or something?

And who is going to run my business while I am sitting in some fucking jury box?

Maybe you could pay my bills while I am locked down for a month or two.

And what the fuck does voting have to do with Veterans Health Care?

My girlfriend gets the CA sample ballet booklet, and there is not a single vet bill in it.

Voting is not a duty.

I voted one time in my life, and that was against GWB in 2000.

Lotta goddamned good that did me.

And I got pulled into a two week hit-and-run trial immediately following the elections.

Thanks for volunteering. And welcome to my Ignore List. With more than 100,000 soldiers in harm's way, you can't be fucking bothered to vote because it would be an inconvenience.

I sure as hell wouldn't want you to be put out...

That's what's left of one of our GI's. But don't worry about it. I wouldn't want to interrupt your bliss.

68. Who wins the county is irrelevant -- it's who wins the state that matters.
Who wins the county you live in is totally irrelevant in a presidential election. The only thing that matters is who wins the state. So even if your county is strongly Democratic, if you vote for a Democrat then your vote will help counter the vote of a Republican in some other county of your state.

Just in case that matters to you. Or, if not, maybe I'll save someone else from the misconception -- although I certainly hope that on DU there are very few who don't already know this.

40. No drivers license, either? California also uses DMV lists, among other things.

Guide to VoterRegistration in California
Some people believe that if they register to vote, they will be selected to serve on
jury duty. Jury duty records are compiled from a variety of sources, including from
the Department of Motor Vehicles records. Voter registration lists are only one of
the sources from which potential jurors are recruited.

And who I ultimately "stick with" as you phrase it as it all plays out will be my business. And if you were truly sorry for your assumption, you wouldn't have made it in the first place. I'm not into the political end of this and certainly not the soundbite polls, which was why I asked the question I did. My number one concern now is the climate crisis and supporting Al Gore's work now which is more than just "his passion" or a hobby to pass the time... it is a global movement for change.

it looks like a steady 74%

Poll result (201 votes)
I'm undecided- Gore's running would make no difference (6 votes, 3%)
I'm undecided- waiting for Gore (148 votes, 74%)
I'm sticking with Clinton (12 votes, 6%)

I'm sticking with Richardson (0 votes, 0%)
I'm sticking with Dodd (0 votes, 0%)

So a whopping 3/4ths of Democratic Undergrouders who answered this open poll are undecided until Gore answers either way.

Diehard DK supportees are at 9%
Clinton at 6%

58. Hell yes - I'm undecided, but I'd vote for Gore in a heartbeat
But I still don't think he'll jump into the race.

64. You left out one important poll possibility
as in:

Gore is already my vote so if he doesn't run, then I'll have to choose another candidate.

71. You're missing a category: "decided" but willing to entertain the possibility of changing ones mind
if Gore actually entered the race.

72. I'll change my vote to him - Gore would bring change, judgement, and electability
It's not that I'm not committed to my candidate (Obama), but Gore would be a consensus candidate who could bring together those who want change, judgement, and electability.

76. We are a pretty biased sample, but, I agree that the 77% is significant -
a whole lot of people haven't really decided on Clinton v. Obama v. Edwards and already the fights here at DU are a high-volume. I fear for the our board if Al doesn't announce, if the battles reach an even more fevered pitch.

:wow:

79. They're the numbers i suspected but seeing them...
in front of me IS staggering.

I've asked a lot of my friends and co-workers about the primary race and all seemed underwhelmed... until Al Gores name is mentioned then about- oh, 3/4ths of them lighten up and say "now there's a guy...".

even a lot of declared republicans.

go figure.
