Mother Teresa's revenge on HITCHENS - who knew, not his first time!!1
Those of us who noticed when HITCHENS was "done" for 3 hours on C-SPAN that he appeared to have BATHED, looked "shiny" and even (gasp!1) sober, didn't know the half of it.

And the half we didn't know is *not* a pretty visual!1

Btw, in that interview, when he described his daily routine as including an oatmeal cookie "as an anti-cholesterol" strategy, it was an insight into whatever component of denial he possesses, since he huffs cigs and guzzles buckets.

Just Say Ouch

PITY Christopher Hitchens. Not because he is going to hell for his attacks on Mother Teresa. Not because his liberal friends despise his support for the war against terrorism. Pity him because he just had all his pubic hair pulled off. Hitchens, who's writing a three-part series in Vanity Fair on self-improvement, visited the J Sisters on Friday for a full male Brazilian bikini wax, which his editor-in-chief Graydon Carter gleefully described four months ago as "the back, the crack and the sack." The salon staff evidently doesn't mind Hitchens' chain-smoking, or his taste for scotch. Our source said, "It's not his first time."

5. I'm not clear on how it's Mother Teresa's revenge. She and CH deserve each other, IMO.

7. Really?
Her interest was not in alleviating poverty but in making more catholics.

Did Hitchens describe her inaccurately?

She said that suffering was a gift from God. She spent her life opposing reproductive choice. She loved poverty, and was a friend to the very worst of the wealthy - the Duvalier family in Haiti and Charles Keating.

8. No problem with attack on MT
While I regret his support for the ridiculously named "War on Terrorism", I find his speeches on religion as a pernicious influence, as well as his book, GOD IS NOT GREAT, mostly right on.

9. There is sufficient controvercy surrounding Theresa to support counter views
There are many witnesses and former participants that claim that she redirected the vast majority of the money donated to her in the name of the poor to the coffers of the Vatican instead. It seems based on various former nuns claims that she was more concerned with witnessing the suffering of the poor than doing anything to change the suffering of the poor. In fact it has been claimed that she insisted that their suffering brought us all closer to Jesus and that eliminating the suffering would be like removing Jesus from our lives.

I won't pretend I know who the real Theresa was. But there is room to allow for those who believe her public persona was a created thing.
