Sen. Kennedy requests your signature on a petition to override SCHIP veto:
From an e-mail:

I introduced the State Children's Health Insurance Program ten years ago -- and I'm not going to let it go without a fight.

We have less than two weeks to get the votes we need to override President Bush's veto of SCHIP. Just two weeks.

So I need to know: Are you with me? Are you ready to fight?

Prove it by signing my petition to override the veto:

http://www.democraticmajority.com/childrenshealth

Tens of thousands of people have already signed the petition.

Anne from Gloucester, Massachusetts wrote:

After I lost my job and my COBRA benefits expired, my son hit his head while playing football at recess. I ended up taking him to the ER that night having to pay out of pocket. I can understand that many children are not provided with medical care because their parents just cannot afford it. This is a national shame to deny our children health benefits while we squander our money protecting the freedom of people across the globe.

Carol from Denver, Colorado wrote:

I am a nurse in the Emergency Department of a hospital and see first hand the impact on families who cannot afford health insurance... I know families who have to pay $900/month in premiums. Obviously, not everyone can afford that. The America that I was raised to love and take pride in would not allow children to go without health care.

And Ann Marie from Darby, Pennsylvania wrote:

My son works 2 jobs to support his family and still struggles to make ends meet. His 2 small children have no health care insurance unless SCHIP is in exsistence. Please do not stop covering my grandchildren. They are only 3 & 5 and need this program. Help American children and adults that need this vital program, it is the right thing to do.

Anne, Carol, and Ann Marie are ready to fight for our children. Will you join them?

If we can afford the war in Iraq, we can afford health insurance for our children. It's that simple.

We have less than two weeks to convince Republicans in Congress that America wants children's health insurance, and they want Congress to override the President's veto.

Let's put up a fight. We can still get it done!

Sincerely,

Senator Edward M. Kennedy

2. It is so important to keep shoving these bills in front of bush**s and the
repubic parties faces. The more they turn 'em down, we need to send 'em right back again.

9. Sorry, but I can't get over the funding mechanism
Putting a regressive tax on the poorer segment of our society is not what this country is supposed to be about. But given that it was the Republicans who inserted this funding mechanism, it isn't a big surprise. What is so surprising is how many Dems, liberals and leftists are supporting this, all because it taxes big, bad, evil tobacco products. Who knew that Dems could be into regressive taxing:eyes:
