Why is the Turkey genocide thing happening now?
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/14/washington/14cnd-turkey.html?hp

What have I missed? Are we trying to stir up things even more? Will this stop Turkey from attacking the Kurds? Is there not enough stuff to label genocide and transgressions like torture by us?

Please tell me why.

I'm flummoxed as well. Not only do we have more critical issues to address
at this time, it's politically STUPID.

If anyone can shed light, I have two questions:

1. WHOSE idea was this to resurrect this at this time? I read that it was being considered during Clinton's presidency, but whose bright idea was it to re-address it?

2. And as in the OP, why NOW? What is the benefit? What would we hope would be accomplished by this? How will this help us?

3. Turkey already attacked the Kurds
On Wednesday. . .

Bone up on your World War I history and it all makes sense. Everything going on in the Middle East right now (the Theater of the Absurd) goes back to that and the carving up of the world.

6. Because we have just begun
to piss off every ally we have left in the world and Turkey (and their giving us a base and flyover space) was just next on the PNAC agenda?

9. Because it was genocide then, it is genocide today
and it will be genocide tomorrow.

Now is as good a time to call it genocide.

10. Because the Armenian lobby which actually has
considerable influence has been trying to get this passed for ages. They almost did under Clinton, but Clinton got the pukes to pull it. And because Adam Schiff (D-CA) who introduced it is from a district with a large Armenian-American Community.
