NY Politicians, Activists Want Felony Status For Noose Incidents

NEW YORK -- New York politicians, community leaders and activists are calling for a new law that would make it a felony to use a noose to harass or play a prank.

State Sen. Eric Adams and other city leaders gathered Sunday to call for the stiffer penalty on noose incidents.

The move comes on the heels of several racially-charged incidents involving nooses -- which are reviled as symbols of racism in the Old South.

Last week, a noose was hung near a Ground Zero post office, and in an incident that caught international attention, a noose was also discovered hanging from the office door of a black professor at Columbia University’s Teachers College.

These incidents might also be considered terrorism, in which case, GITMO's maw awaits.

There are laws on the books. They're just not calling the incidents what they really are, so the perpetrators can be prosecuted as they should be.
