Rep Pete Stark D-Cal..Giving HELL to SCHIP opponents..
Stating" billions to Iraq War..for what? So these kids can grow up to be killed in that war?"

Appreciate his lecturing of the Pubbies who kiss GW's snotty rich-kid butt.

1. That was good.
Even Steny Hoyer made a surprisingly eloquent and moving two minute speech, earlier.

I am unable to judge fairly because I am biased, but it certainly looks like the supporters of veto override are making graceless fools of the reluctant pukes.

12. Words that Stark said
CSPAN just played it back.

"Will spend 200 billion in Iraq" - and that's about it?? WTF? I think it was Barton who said that was the "third time in this debate." I heard someone else yelling something, off-mic. Stark said some more inflamatory things before but this particular utterance didn't seem that inflamatory.

"We probably will have killed 200,000 (?) in Iraq." is what the clerk just read back as the phrase that was taken down. The chair just ruled it was not an utterance that justified censure.

I suspect it's actually sorta true, but... that's an unusual statement.

I couldn't help myself... I was smiling. :)

Who was the woman chairing the proceedings? She immediately warned of making "personal" comments about the president as soon as Stark ended. I think there's a point there, it *is* wrong to make personal attacks, but.... I have to admit, I enjoyed this one. :)

Of course, it's always fine for the RW to make personal attacks of anyone and everyone.

Getting those "under-your-skin" remarks slipped into their speeches, represents the arrogance of that whole political party.

The mere wanting to give Rush Limbaugh a high-five from the congress was an insult worthy of this backslap from Stark.

34. If they'd use the same funding source as for the war, I'd be behind it.
I have kids and was a single Mom for years (although, I never heard of the S-CHIP program in my state).

However, trying to fund it on the backs of a dwindling sub-group is a bit much. Particularly when that group may not continue their habits and stop buying the taxable product, thus bankrupting this excellent program.

36. I don't like the funding source either
But there was no way in the world we could have gotten legislation through the House and Senate with an income tax increase to pay for this. Not until we get more Democrats in Congress in November 2008. So given a choice of this way or nothing, I'm in favor.

49. The funding was a stopgap measure.
The funding sources could be modified later.
If we could get the war stopped there'd be plenty of money.
Better yet, if they didn't give the creep in charge the hundred plus billion he wants to piss away, this program could be doubled and totally paid for for the next ten years.

There's gotta be a way the majority could punish these creeps. Block them, allow them no input, something, whatever it takes to make them the sorriest sons of bitches ever passed a law or screwed a pooch.
I am really, really pissed!

50. Right, and it would have been a step in the right direction.
If I were president with a filibuster-proof congressional majority behind me, here are the first things I would do:

1. Get our troops out of Iraq in 12 months and stop spending related to the occupation (no blackwater, no military bases, no palatial embassy.

2. Restore all taxes to what they were in December 2000. (rescind 2001 & 2003 tax cuts, eliminate Paris Hilton tax cuts, treat dividends the same as earned income)

3. Single payer universal healthcare for everyone under Medicare Parts A & B.

4. Cut payroll taxes in half and leave them like that until the general fund redeems all the Social Security trust fund treasury bonds. After that eliminate the earnings cap on payroll taxes.
