House fails to reverse child health veto

By KEVIN FREKING, Associated Press Writer
3 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - House Democrats failed Thursday to override President Bush's veto of their pre-election year effort to expand a popular government health insurance program to cover 10 million children.

The bill had bipartisan support but the 273-156 roll call was 13 votes short of the two-thirds majority supporters needed to enact the bill into law despite Bush's objections. The bill had passed the Senate with a bigger than two-thirds majority.

The State Children's Health Insurance Program now subsidizes health care insurance coverage for about 6 million children at a cost of about $5 billion a year. The vetoed bill would have added 4 million more children, most of them from low-income families, to the program at an added cost of $7 billion annually.

To pay for the increase, the bill would have raised the federal tax on cigarettes from 39 cents to $1.00 a pack.

From his speech this morning, Bush lied about the SCHIP bill

4. Notice that Kucinich changed his vote and supported the override
I'm glad to see it, and proud to support him.

2. Now what we need to do is start a letter writing campaign
and not let up. We should write to the newspapers and the TV stations and the radio stations in the hometown of the democrats that voted against this bill. Telling the people in those areas that these people who ran as democrats mislead them. That they are really republicans who told their constitutions lies to get their votes. That they have consistently voted for any law that bush wanted them to. And about them going to the whitehouse to get their orders right after they were elected. Also that they underhandedly took money from MoveON and other democratic organizations to get elected. That is was just a ploy set up by rove to sneak into the house of representatives. Knowing full well that if they said they were really republicans they wouldn't have gotten elected.

I am going to write and all the while telling them how bush lied about th e$83,000 limit and how their representatives let down children in this country.

3. Yup. They'll pay billions to kill Iraqi kids, but not to treat our own.
I can't wait to see the lot of them in prison.

7. 2 "Dems" voted no; 2 Dems did not vote
Dems voting no: Taylor and Marshall.

Dems not voting: Johnson, E. B., and Carson

Anyone know anything about these so-called "reps"? Who are they "representing"?
