SCHIP: We now know who our enemies are in the larger fight for universal health care.
from OurFuture.org:

SCHIP Vote: The Record Is Clear
Submitted by Roger Hickey on October 18, 2007 - 2:26pm.

One hundred and fifty-six House Members declared themselves enemies of children and families with this vote. Ignoring the will of the people, a conservative minority in the House sustained the president's veto and denied nearly 5 million children access to health insurance. Upholding the president’s veto is only the latest obstruction to progress by Washington conservatives.

An overwhelming majority of Americans support bold reforms in health care and other areas, but conservatives have repeatedly used filibusters and vetoes to block this progress, and then they hypocritically blame others for a lack of congressional action. The record is clear. Congressional conservatives and the president are the culprits who have stood in the way of a new progressive direction for our nation. Our children will pay a steep price for their cruel politics.

Conservatives celebrate the veto at their own peril. Voters are calling on their government to solve the health care crisis for Americans of all ages. Where legislators stood on expanding children’s health care is a good indication of where they will stand on critical reforms needed to provide affordable health care for all — an issue that will be at the center of our political debate in next year’s elections.

2. What are their names and districts?
And who is running against each and every one of them?

3. heres someI found on Dailykos
Going through the roll call on the S-CHIP override vote (which failed narrowly earlier in the hour), it occurs to me that a total of eighteen Republicans, more than the margin needed to override the veto, voted to sustain despite being potentially vulnerable in 2008.

They fall into one or more of the following three categories: 1) Freshmen who won with 55% of the vote or less in 2006; 2) Incumbents with very strong announced challengers for 2008; 3) Incumbents with ethical issues that might damage their vote totals in the near future.

Go below the fold for the names...and may they all be called to account for what they did to America's kids today.

Steve Singiser's diary :: ::
THE DISGRACEFUL DOZEN (AND A HALF) ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Michele Bachmann (MN 06)
Brian Bilbray (CA 50)
Steve Chabot (OH 01)
Barbara Cubin (WY 01)
John Doolittle (CA 04)
Thelma Drake (VA 02)
Tom Feeney (FL 24)
Robin Hayes (NC 08)
John Kline (MN 02)
Joe Knollenberg (MI 09)
Randy Kuhl (NY 29)
Marilyn Musgrave (CO 04)
Tom Reynolds (NY 26)
Peter Roskam (IL 06)
Bill Sali (ID 01)
Jim Saxton (NJ 03)
Jean Schmidt (OH 02)
Tim Walberg (MI 07)

All of these candidates have potentially competitive races. Many have already drawn Democratic candidates that raised six figures in the 3rd quarter

13. Chabot & Mean Jean Schmidt - Pride of Ohio GOP
No surprise there. Ohio is the spawning ground of some of the most wretched and hateful GOP'ers in Congress.

Now watch as the Ohio news media rushes to their defense, while taking cheap shots at Dems like Dennis Kucinich.

6. Taylor, whose district was decimated by Katrina?
Edited on Thu Oct-18-07 06:42 PM by Skidmore
Seems like his people would be in need of this type of help. When he comments on how difficult the comeback from that storm is, does this not register as part of the solution for him?

8. That's the one....And you would think he'd be among those not just supporting it....
but out trying to twist arms to get support for it....But I suspect if you checked out his campaign contribution coffers, there would be some insurance company money in them.

15. I'll bet you'll find tobacco contributions as well
Saxby Chambliss made this one of his major points about voting no on Schip. Of course, he is the lapdog of tobacco, among other corporations. :grr:

5. Names. We need names.
We all need to campaign against these child hating people with all our energies. I mean they are nasty folks. They hate children. How can anyone hate children. If anyone who is running against any of these child haters is reading, please feel free to use any of my rhetoric you want to, even if it isn't real polished.
But we really do need to spread the message to the masses about the Congress people who voted against the SCHIP bill. They have to go. And those who slime the children need to go. I have been trying to get away from all the hatefulness here and elsewhere, but this sets me off. I really do not like these people. Thankfully, both of my Senators and my Representative backed the bill. Makes me proud to be an Iowan. We like kids here. Well, except for King, but he just generally all around sucks.

9. Thank you
As I said, that fucking King was no surprise at all. He's the guy who equated Immigrants with livestock. Something about building electric fences will keep them away just as it does with livestock. If he runs for re-election out there, I am going to get into fights because I have every intention to fight hard for his defeat.

11. thanks for the list, and here is my email to my rep.
well judy, i see you voted against schip. thanks for NOTHING! AGAIN! my daughter has been without health insurance for the past three years because we have not been able to AFFORD it AND live here in your district at the same time. i wanted to let you know we are not the only family in this neighborhood who is in this situation. once again you have shown your true colors--that you stand by george bush instead of the people you represent. that george bush is more important to you than CHILDREN are. that you're so busy doing the republican thing that you fail once again to do the right thing. i look forward to voting you out of office. spare me the form letter--i can't stand hearing from you.

14. Don't be afraid to point out
that not only your child has been without health insurance, but so have you (I presume).

Adults need to advocate for their own affordable health care, as well as their children's. You are just as important.
