Obama To Do Gospel Tour With "Ex-Gay" Singer Who Vowed To Battle "Curse Of Homosexuality"
Source: AMERICAblog

Yes, sucking up to anti-gay bigots and joining them on stage - no, giving them a stage - is certainly defying conventional wisdom as to how a Democrat becomes president. Oh, and McClurkin also believes that gays can, and need to, be "cured."

Yes, I'm an Obama supporter.
I'm assuming McClurkin wasn't properly vetted by Obama's people;
hopefully, a little pressure will get the Obama campaign to drop McClurkin from the event.
We'll see.

13. What are you talking about?
I said a black "ex-gay" gospel singer who fathered children out of wedlock was unlikely to help Obama win in the suburbs, as the previous poster suggested.

I have no idea what you think you're responding to.

9. I'd say you've earned it.
Did I mention that I don't care for Obama? He's too willing to give up ground and the nation has gone so far to the right that we can't afford to give up any more ground. There is a point when compromise ends and give away begins. In my opinion, Obama has crossed that line.

I cringe every time a candidate reaches for the republican vote, forgetting about Democratic values.

15. Thanks to Reagan and Bush,
I think the strategists and possibly the candidates themselves have decided that the more narrow christian vote is more effective and easier than trying to appeal to a wide range of people and are therefore trying to tailor their campaigns to court the more moderate righters to vote democratic; possibly thinking that substituting the moderate right for the left wing of the party is a viable option to win public office. We'll see.

19. I just feel like cattle being herded
The polls and the talking heads tell us who we are and what we believe, and when they say it enough we begin to believe it. If they were to ask their poll questions in a different manner it would expose that the center line has been falsely pushed to the right. Same thing for what is "acceptable" speech on cable news shows.

A good example of creating an illusion until enough people believe it then it becomes reality is the 'religious right'. Religious people were not tripping over themselves to find republican ideology, republican operatives set about in a methodical way to insert themselves into religion and created their own base. Magic. They turned illusion into reality.

I'm so tired of smoke and mirrors...

No wonder Christianity gets a bad Rap ,just like Shrub using the Gospel to Justify war ,Jesus never spoke one word that justified Killing in any form, for any reason.

16. The way Obama keeps using religion should scare the hell out of everyone.
Edited on Sun Oct-21-07 05:43 AM by TheUniverse
Religion has no place in politics, and Obama seems to not agree. The more I hear him reaching out to "values voters" the more I don't want to vote for him. Im beginning to wonder if Obama is a fundamentalist himself. I can't think of any Democrat who felt the need to shove religion on everyone the way Obama has.

21. Forget him
He has been pandering to the religious right, left, and middle, and back to the right for some time. He and Hillary are wearing their religion on their sleeve as they say. And have picked up some doggie doo on their pants cuffs as a result.

The field is narrowing. I wouldn't vote for either of them at this point for doggie doo collector.

24. Interesting move by Obama
Honestly speaking, I don't think Obama is pandering to the "values" vote as much as he is pandering to the the Black vote. Though Donnie McClurkin is probably one of the biggest hypocrites I've ever witnessed(he may be anti-gay, but trust me, he's not anti-have-sex-with-other-men), Obama is doing what he can in order to appeal to the driving force of the Black community - Black Christian women.(Think of Tyler Perry's, Terri McMillan's, the tv show Girlfriends', success).

What is even a little more interesting about McClurkin is the fact that most of his supporters know he's still gay. For them, as long as he publicly and mildly shuns homosexuality, they'll continue to support him. Weird, eh?
