'Takeover: The Return of the Imperial Presidency and the Subversion of American Democracy'
Just a reminder, coming up on Book tv at 4:15pm Eastern

About the Program

Charlie Savage contends that the Republican Party has focused on concentrating increased power around the presidency following Watergate. Mr. Savage argues that during President Bush's current tenure the government's system of checks and balances has deliberately been abused to encourage the increased decision making ability of the commander-in-chief. Charlie Savage discussed his book and took national calls on The Washington Journal.

About the Author

Charlie Savage is a national legal affairs reporter for the Boston Globe.

4. We on DU know this stuff, but
apparently many that work night and day and have little time to read and watch what is happening to this country need to see this. Each little bit helps. Word is getting out about our imperial president. Few Americans like this idea, they just don't realize what has happened.

Thanks for posting and thanks to the Boston Globe for these kinds of reporters. Who owns the Globe?

6. Thanks, they seem to be more outspoken than the NY Times
Dems seem to get more favorable press in the Globe than the Times.

7. Well that was damn scary
He doesn't seem to believe much may change even with a change in party. Dems, he states, are hesitatant even now to buck the admin and in particular, the wire tapping, evesdropping invasion of privacy that was being discussed and voted on in Congress recently.

He hopes that the candidates will be asked these very questions while out campaigning, like how much power should a pres. have and how many national secrets are Necessary!
