I have a "Cheney / Satan '08" bumpersticker on my car. This morning
I was at a stop light and this older gentleman pulled up beside me and signaled for me to roll my window down. I rolled it down and he says, "Hillary would NEVER run with Cheney"...

It took me a second but then I busted up laughing. The man gave me a wave and a grin and then off he went. I thought that was pretty funny.

I just wanna make that clear. How funny that asshole republicans and ________ __________ Liberals both agree that they hate Clinton.

I think you are signed up on the wrong fuckin site.

Also, where did I say in my post that I hated Hilary Clinton?

As someone who is neutral to warm with regard to her (depending on the issue), I would have found the joke, and the joker, obnoxious.

45. Whatever...
I cannot believe some of the comments that I am reading here.

A man made a joke about my bumper sticker -- he turned the meaning around and made a joke about Hillary. Because I found it funny doesn't mean that I agree with him.

I thought it was clever, and the way the guy said it was funny. I have a sense of humor (unlike many on this forum), and I laughed.

Donald Rumsfeld is giving the President his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, three Brazilian soldiers were killed."

"OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!"

His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands.

Finally, the President looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"

Of course not!

Mr. Tesha and I donated quite a lot of money to Clinton's
2000 Senate campaign so we actually paid some attention to
how she voted once elected. And, surprise! On many of the
tough choices, she voted exactly against our position,
whether we're talking about her support for Bush's war
of aggression in Iraq, support for banning flag burning,
support for aggression in Iran, or any of several other
issues.

So we're firmly opposed to Clinton and she can now get
her money and her votes from the people she supports
with her votes: the DLC and the Republicans. 'Cause
she's sure not getting either money or votes from us.

Tesha

And this may be a radical thought, but we don't need to confront them 100% of the time. This elderly gentleman would not have his opinions changed by anything driver8 might have said in those few moments. But, in the future, he might be a tiny bit more tolerant of those with different views because he shared a laugh with driver8.

When I went to the anti-war protest last Saturday, I met a few Republicans there. Not counter-protesting, not heckling, not even arguing or disagreeing with us, but protesting the war with us.

As far as many normal Joe Republicans you'd meet on the street are concerned, their party has been hijacked. There actually was a time a couple decades ago when the GOP wasn't entirely unreasonable.

Whether one agres with the premise of the joke or not, it was still funny. My favorite love to hate it joke told to me by an unsympathetic friend when Jerry Garcia died:

Q: "What did the Deadhead say when he ran out of weed"?
A: "This music sucks".

I can completely disagree with the premise but still appreciate the humor. I'm surprised by some of the comments in response to your post.

42. I'm with you
Where's the sense of humor on this board?

The same people who can't laugh at themselves are the ones who think all "pukes" are evil and closed-minded. I hate that attitude. I don't agree with the platform of the Republican party, and I think the current crop of R's in power are some of the worst ever, but I also don't think they are all evil and stupid and child molesters.

Some of them even have a sense of humor. Go figure.

I guess the people that have no sense of humor also don't get John Stewart or Stephen Colbert.

44. It is, indeed, a funny comment. And expect plenty more if Hillary does become the Dem candidate..
She is not liked by anyone I know...Dem or Repub.

52. Expect plenty more no matter who becomes the Dem candidate.
I've already been the unwilling ear-witness to an HRC-Obama joke. I'm sure there are plenty more where that came from.

54. Dude.. I guess having a sense of humor is not part of
being a liberal. The comments here are almost as funny as the joke. "Only a Republican would find that funny". Gee I guess I am a Republican, cause I laughed. When are Dems going to figure out that most Republicans are not the "enemy". It's the neo-cons and freepers that are destroying us and in order to defeat them we are going to need the middle of the road Republicans as well as all the Dems on the same side. We are going to need a leader that can bring most of the people together. A sense of humor and a good laugh ar a good start to finding common ground with all people.

80. Dude, I'm sorry if you think that tired shit is funny
I don't think Hillary = Satan is unfunny because I'm a Hillary supporter (I'm not), or because I think we shouldn't ever make fun of Democrats. I think it's unfunny because it's old, tired meme. It's as unfunny as Monica, OJ jokes, and pretty much 99% of Jay Leno's monologue topics.

The fact that some people still find this stuff funny just tells me that some Democrats are just as impaired as Republicans when it comes to good comedy.

I never realized that there were so many humorless assholes on DU.

Dude, I'm sorry you think that you are so superior to me because I found this funny.

I'm also sorry that I posted a funny story to a bunch of uptight, holier than thou, judgemental "liberals."

Save your pity for someone who gives a shit.

89. I think it's pretty funny too. For those on this thread getting all bent out of shape,
let me explain: the joke is not "Hillary = Satan." That's not a joke, it's name-calling. Name-calling in general isn't all that funny (although "Cheney = Satan" is kind of funny, because calling someone you don't like names is good for a grin at least).

The joke here is how the other driver pretended to misunderstand the bumper sticker in order to reverse its meaning - that sort of repartee is funny. Personally, I think it's good when people who are presumably on opposite sides can engage in light-hearted banter on occasion; it's not as if we should spend all our time bashing each other with rocks...
