1. ``Schumer's power is clearly in the ascendant,'' said Jeff Ballabon, a former Republican Senate aide

4. Senator Schumer Should Be Careful Of Flying Too Close To The Sun In His Ascent
I hope he has a challenger in the next election. After Chertoff and Mukasey not to mention the way he strong armed progressive candidates out of races, I'm done with him.

2. I hope Leahy has a long-g-g memory. Schumer is not
getting any X-mas card from me, and I have a long memory, long enough to be very suspicious of him from now on.

3. Is this how
the senate club is? It is like a bunch of kids jockying for position if this article is to be believed.
It is like it is all about them and not our country.

5. "We all know Chuck" said Durbin.
Schumer is the very definition of a power hungry pol. Leahy isn't. Schumer seeks the limelight at every possible moment. Leahy doesn't. It's an open secret that Schumer tries to take credit for the JC, and that he wants the gavel in Leahy's hand.

Leahy is principled. Schumer is power hungry.

6. Some Republicans hardly contained their glee over the spectacle. Specter,
The Nov. 2 announcement of Schumer's decision to vote for Mukasey upstaged Leahy, who 90 minutes earlier told a Vermont news conference he would oppose confirmation.

Some Republicans hardly contained their glee over the spectacle. Specter, Leahy's predecessor as Judiciary Committee chairman, chortled over a ``poignant'' news story cataloguing that ``Schumer took credit for exposing political prosecutions; Schumer took credit for getting rid of Gonzales; Schumer took credit'' for Mukasey.

``It amuses the former chairman, just amuses,'' Specter said in an interview.

``I didn't see how Senator Schumer could not support Judge Mukasey,'' Republican Whip Trent Lott of Mississippi said. ``After all, it was his nominee.''
