I got this e-mail from a friend today, and I wished the MSM would print or expose this.

I've been listening to Conservative radio recently. It's always interesting to listen to them. They CLAIM we are undergoing a Bush Economic Boom.

Seven years ago:

You could buy a Candian Dollar for $.59 Today that Canadian Dollar will cost you $1.07

You could buy a Euro for $.97 Today that Euro will cost you $1.43

A gallon of unleaded regular was $1.44, today $3.34

We were at peace. Today we are at war.

We had a balanced budget. Now we face a grinding national debt.

Forclosures were at historic lows, today at historic highs.

A barrel of oil was $36. Today, $97.

Bread (white) was $2.40 a loaf. Today $3.89

Today 15% fewer Americans have health care than did seven years ago.

A average house in L A County was &170,000, Today $568,000

Wages have generally risen 1.5% a year, or with the multiplier, roughly 12%

This is a Boom?

As Ronald Reagan once said "Are you better off today than you were four years ago?"

Or as Carvelle once said "It's the economy, Stupid."

I dare say...we are seriously being fucked ! :evilfrown:

2. I don't have any "conservative pals" left.
The last of them ran off when I went to work for Howard Dean back in '03.

6. I'm assuming he wrote it.
He's not the "chain mail " type, and the figures pretty much match what I know for a fact.

9. We've been totally punked
pruned, pickled, toasted, baked, had, ripped off and - for some of us - killed, maimed and marginalized.

But if you're rich . . . .:puke:

10. Dunno.
Most is true, but $3.89 for bread? I bought a loaf of "French" yesterday for $1.19.

Anyone who buys four dollar brand-name bread is stupid.

11. Since imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, ...
... I just plagiarized the hell out of this thread, edited it a bit to make it more relevant to Tennessee (and to include some facts left out of the original post) and submitted it to my local paper as a LTTE.

I encourage everyone also to use this thread and its basic outline of damning facts as the foundation for your own LTTE. If you think that is a bad idea, sue me. (Just kidding.)

I've never done this before, but the Repukes do it all the time.

12. Bread (white) was $2.40 a loaf. Today $3.89 ? where do you live?
You can't find bread for under $1 today ?

A average house in L A County was &170,000, Today $568,000

the housing bubble should burst that price down

Wages have generally risen 1.5% a year, or with the multiplier, roughly 12%

12 % ? who got a raise in the past seven years?
not I but at least I have a job.

We are being pulled down to a second world standard as we stare at the third world living standards.

Guess we desrve to be punished for our overconsumption of the resources that the third world is needing to to maintain thier 3rd world standards.....

16. As a midwesterner, the prices you quoted are roughly double
what prices in the midwest were seven LOOOOOOONG years ago. For example, in June of 1999, a gallon of gasoline in K.C. was 78 cents. Bread was a little over a buck.
