19. That's definitely a sign
that Ohio needs a new Democratic Candidate for his seat. Time for him to get a real job.

40. He has a primary opponent. Her ads are a scream. Nor just "OK"--REALLY good!!
She's trying to get Dennis to debate her, and he refuses--he's afraid, I think. He's probably lost the bubble on local issues. She is very organized; of course, it's difficult if not impossible to oust an incumbent, but ya never know. Maybe a woman who lost a kid in this war, who is a Democrat, might appeal. Here's her website: http://www.rosemarypalmerforcongress.com/

She quotes CQ at her website (I would too, if I were getting this kind of press):

There are five Democratic incumbents facing serious primary challenges...Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich, D-Ohio, who is making his second longshot presidential bid, faces a contest closer to home in the 10th District, which encompasses west side Cleveland and its suburbs...Challenger Rosemary Palmer says Kucinich has missed too many important votes in his quixotic bid for the White House effort..."

It sure can't be because of his "heavy" presidential schedule. All he does is go to Ani Di=eFranco concerts (three of them in NOV alone)--he's not even IN the early battleground states most of the time. And his schedule is like swiss cheese--he goes for days at a time without ANY engagements.

Of course he's not serious--if he were, he wouldn't be jetting off to Syria on the contributions of his acolytes.

68. Oh, go on--go with your first instinct! My feelings won't be hurt. Really.
I don't have much in common with someone who gets all bent out of shape and personally "affronted" because someone DARES to post information about an intelligent, vital, interested, sensible, and valid Democratic candidate, an antiwar activist/gold star mother who "dares" to run against the DK God because she cares about the fucking district that she lives in, and feels, after supporting DK for many years, that he's gotten a bit too big for his britches.

And someone who is compelled to change their vote based on that posting alone, which imparts little more than the knowledge that someone is exercising their democratic perogative--well, like I said--no common ground.

None whatsoever.

He just is not focused at all on Ohio....only his personal choice issues. I rarely, ever see him at any of the State Dinners. I go to many of them too! The last one I actually saw him at an event, besides PDA was in 03, when Howard Dean was there as was Jerry Springer for the Annual State Dinner.

She is quite engaging, has a good resume, and is by no means stupid.

It'll be a steep uphill climb for her, though--but you never know, sometimes.

53. I think Kucinich uses the Presidential Primary Season
as a platform to speak truth and force the other candidates to a higher level. Also to show America that not everyone in DC is a corporatist.

He knows as well as you do his chances of winning. It's not always about winning. He brings a lot to the table, as well as a lot of voters to the party.

That being said, I would hate to lose his voice in Congress, and I don't think he will lose, but he should debate her and give the people of Cleveland a reason to stick with him.

54. He oughta use it to reconnect with his district. He should debate his opponent.
If she gets any dough and can buy masses of TV time, he just might have a problem.

If this woman won, I personally think she'd be a powerful voice in Congress. She's an antiwar activist, a mother who lost a child in war, and she's not without a resume. No one can tell her that she doesn't have a clue how it feels.

It's amazing that people aren't falling over everywhere, because that's a real stretch to get to what they're trying to reach...

13. I agree that Elizabeth speaks English with precision.

After years of gee-dubya, perhaps people can't understand precise English.

"As to consideration -- absolutely" means "Will he think about it? Sure." The unsaid subtext could well have been "For about two seconds."

Edited on Sat Nov-24-07 09:40 AM by LeftishBrit
There are some decisions you don't need to think about. Like I don't have to 'consider' whether I'd vote for the BNP or some hard-right Tory - I automatically wouldn't!

ETA: I'm beginning to think that maybe Ron Paul, together with Bush and Cheney, *should* think carefully about jumping off a cliff!

14. Kucinich and Paul can run, anyone can who pays the filing fees and signs their names...
....but WHY?

Other than stopping the war in Iraq and a general agreement on restoring constitutional government in the US, they disagree on more than they agree upon.

Paul's libertarian political philosophy which includes dismantling major portions of the New Deal Governmental Reforms clashes with Kucinich's political philosophy of providing a major role for govern to play in addressing the needs of the people.

and basically wants to go back to the time before FDR, if not earlier. He is HORRIBLY right-wing - have you seen his speech "A Republic if You Can Keep It" on his own website.

He is opposed to the war for isolationist reasons, just like the BNP or LePen or Pat Buchanan. He's not humanitarian. The thought of him getting into power in the world is just horrifying!!!!!

Because he does. Not reforming it. Abolishing it.

I've not been to Michigan, but I saw the disastrous effects of what Maggie did to our welfare state and public services - and that wasn't anywhere NEAR what Ron Paul is recommending.

And he can't even be called consistently laissez-faire libertarian, as then he would support choice for women and not go in for all this social conservativism.

Pure evil IMO.

I am not a blindly partisan supporter of Democrats. I'm not a partisan in my own country - I haven't voted for either of my country's two main parties in 15 years. I've voted for three parties in my time (Labour, LibDem mostly, Green); have never voted Tory; but prefer some Tories to our worst Labourites such as John fucking Reid and David Blunkett.

I'm just a foreigner who thinks that the world would be better off if America did *not* have a far-right government, as it does now, and would under Ron Paul; and an optimist who thinks this change will happen!

29. Well at least they agree on something
Re-opening the 911 Investigation and various treasonous offenses.
I mean just look at all the unanswered questions.

The Bush connection to the bin Laden family.

- Escorting dozens of members of the bin Laden family out of US after 9/11

- The Patriot Act having been written decades before 9/11

- The call for a ‘new Pearl Harbor’ by the neocons who orchestrated the wars

- A totally invalid and false connection between Iraq and the ‘War on Terror

- Regular, politically timed terror alerts

- Toxic air quality at Ground Zero after 9/11

- The ‘junk science’ of Global Warming and its effects around the globe

- WH orders to suppress and politicize reports on by the Surgeon General

- Plans for wars with Iraq and Afghanistan that were made before 9/11

- Saddam Hussein’s possession of WMD

- Saddam Hussein’s connection to Al Qaeda

- Saddam Hussein’s involvement in 9/11

- Saddam Hussein’s threat to the US or his neighbors

- Having NO plans for an extended occupation of Iraq or for keeping the peace

- Inadequate armor and supplies for our men and women in uniform

- Supposed ‘progress’ in Iraq, time after time

- Fudged numbers of civilian deaths in Afghanistan and Iraq

- The staged ‘toppling’ of Saddam’s statue

- The staged rescue of Jessica Lynch

- The lies about Pat Tillman’s death by friendly fire

- Illegal warrantless spying on US citizens

- Torture at Abu Ghraib and other prisons in Iraq and Afghanistan

- Rendition of detainees to other countries for torture

- Outing Valerie Plame as a CIA operative

- White House involvement in the firing of federal prosecutors…

There are so many more lies to list, but I think you get the idea.

58. Mrs Kucinich,
If you and your husband feel that hooking up with this racist, sexist scumbag is IN ANY WAY appropriate, I hereby give up any hope in the promise I believed Dennis' candidacy stood for.

59. She doesn't sound overly familiar with the full Libertarian platform
Many liberals aren't, which has been discussed elsewhere. They appreciate Paul speaking truth to power about Iraq and government accountability and stop there, never realizing that on many critical issues, Libertarians are the polar opposites of progressives.

For that reason alone others in the Kucinich camp would quash this idea. Not to mention Paul would never accept, even if the ridiculous offer were made. VPs have little appreciable power (notwithstanding the current puppet show); Paul would never settle for running as second string to a true progressive, facing what will likely be an even stronger Democratically-controlled Congress.

I give EK a pass on this.

64. You're absolutely right
It would never happen, so what EK says about it is irrelevant anyhow.

There are some of those who would vote for RP that might consider voting for DK - there is some common ground. It may help that their first choice is not insulted.

67. Now where would you get an idea like that? She is exceedingly smart.
Both John and Elizabeth Edwards know exactly what they believe and it is not in a Libertarian platform that would dismantle Government playing any kind of role in the lives of people in favor of privatization.

You must know little about her.

I'm of the mind that they're not letting go of the power that has been amassed for them whether or not that means another terror attack.

69. Dennis Kucinich is not going to run with Ron Paul.
I would much rather see him run against Ron Paul in the general election. That way, REAL issues could be debated, at least. And Dennis would win in a huge landslide.
