I saw this flyer on wealth distribution while doing a search for IWW pictures.
IWW = Industrial Workers of the World. I found it through a google search of IWW. In a very simple way, it almost sums up all the big problems found in America.

5. The l-curve blows my mind
We studied it in a sociology class, and I was bummed for awhile.

13. As an aside...Kucinich came to town last time he was running
And Dave Chandler happened to run into him at Dennys afterwards.
They sat and talked and Dave gave Dennis some of his material to look over.

4. Are you reading that right?
I think what it is saying is that if the bottom 90 percent kept up with the top 1 percent as far income goes according to 1989 standards, then the bottom 90 percent should be making 12,000 more than they currently do. In short, they've been falling behind.

"If the bottom 90 percent of America's families and the wealthiest 1
percent held the same share of the nation's income in 2004 as they did in
1989, the average family in the bottom 90 percent would have had $12,208
more to its name and the average top 1 percent family $1.7 million less."

11. & wingnuts complain about Mexico. But I must be missing something:
How is it that the 9% and the 90% of the population *both* control the same 30% of the wealth?

14. It's not the same 30% - they each have half of what's left over
from the 1%'s 40% of all wealth.

Clearly that means 99% of the people have 60% of it.

It just happens, according to this chart anyway, to be split evenly between percentiles 2-10 (the 9%) and 11-100 (the 90%) at 30% of the wealth for each group.

12. Well that 90% sure seems to be mishandling their "wealth"
The 1% have gotten substantially wealthier and so have the 9% but the 90% is sucking hind tit..

15. The 90% just contribute to the remainder.

Why not contribute to each other?

Whoops, that's socialism and therefore evil. Besides, "nobody owes anyone anything", thank you Bing.

Edited on Sun Nov-25-07 06:56 PM by personman
Something like 5% controlling 40% of the land. If I recall correctly. Was a while ago and maybe old numbers, might be worse now. If someone has recent/accurate numbers, I'd be interested.

Edit: I'm probably erring on the conservative side, I'd generally rather understate something than be thought of as a bullshitter. :)
