Saw a bumper sticker today
while I was on a break at work.

My hair nearly caught fire. I was not so much pissed as just outraged. And, yeah, there's a difference.

The bumper sticker?

Join the army
Risk your life to defend America
and the constitution
then come home and have the liberals
treat you like shit.

This, btw, was about six inches below the Sig Sauer sticker on the canopy door.

My first thought?

"Why, you whiny motherfucker... 25% of all our homeless are veterans and you sure as hell can't blame THAT on liberals, you pinhead. We're currently fighting to restore or retain veteran benefits the "conservatives" are trying to eliminate. So bite me."

My second. "WHO'S fighting to defend the Constitution? Seriously?"

Had it not been in the parking lot at work, and had I a piece of paper to write on, I might've written a nasty note. But instead, I just shook my head in disgust and went about my business.

But seriously. How fucked up is THAT bumper sticker?

1. Very much so
Just another one of the right wing's straw men.

I really hate them when they try to "use" the troops in this sort of self-pitying way.

The first premise is wrong, so all the rest that is built on it is simply false.

How about...

Join the army
Risk your life in a war based on Bush's lies
and see the constitution trashed in front of you
then come home (IF you come home)
possibly missing several body parts
and maybe emotionally scarred for life
and have the neocons
treat you like shit.

Oh, and on edit, add this:

...IF you don't get deployed again, and again, and again, and again...

4. It wasn't Libs who closed all those VA Hospitals and took away all their other benefits.

It was BushCo and their co-conspirators.

5. Or how about this...
Join the army
Risk your life to defend America
and the constitution
then come home and have the conservatives
abandon you in the streets.

At any rate this is one hateful person - and hopelessly lost.

6. Twit indicator
The owner is a swaggering bantam rooster who thinks he needs a gun to make him feel like a real man.

Men who know not and know not that they know not are fools. Shun them.

8. this may help
I chastised a neocon whom was flying a tattered flag. I ran into him in the safeway parking lot. the flag had been flown on his ford f-250 long enough to be worn down to the stars. I treated him like a drill Sargent. and berated him for flying such a tattered flag. i ordered him to take it down and replace it with a new one. he took it down and i volunteered to have it retired by the local boy scouts. i took his number so he could attend the ceremony. about a week later the scout troop and he and I went to the local military cemetery, for the ceremony. when it came to the burning part i thought he would have a heart attack. afterward he admitted he never knew how flags were retired. and i talked about how the constitution was more important than any flag. when we got to my car and he saw my Biden sticker he exploded. he was aghast at how a Democrat could "get the better of him" as he went off in a huf, i yelled back that Democrats love America more than rethugs do. he flipped me off. I thought of how Dems get arrested for that particular hand gesture.

10. Bush's legacy = rats infesting Walter Reed hospital.
I was writing letters to the paper for years about the VA budget cuts but it takes rats in Walter Reed to get anyones attention.

Don't bother the ditto head crowd with facts. They will screech that Bush supports troops to the max because that is what Limbaugh tells them.

14. Dollars to donuts says
That when you mention how * has lied these vets into war and neglected them since their return, set up backdoor drafts and dozens of other outrages, this slackskull would chant the "they volunteered" mantra and any other ready made dodges that listening to OxyRushBo can fill a faulty frontal lobe with.

15. A couple of weeks ago I had lunch at a sidewalk restaurant and the
outside of the building was being prepped for painting. One of the workers (of Spanish descent, most likely Mexican) had to remove the American flag so it wouldn't get splashed. I sat and watched the young man remove the flag and perfectly fold it, all points even, etc. After he was finished I complimented him on his correctness (I'm a Marine mother). He smiled at me and in very broken english, said "thank you, very important." I was very moved by that...

Max Cleland, too.

That little purple heart band-aid on that woman's chins was just the height of respect for veterans everywhere, wasn't it?
