Were Jack and Bobby the Last, Best hope for humanity/America?
Is it just me or have we been sliding down a terrible slope since the days of Camelot?

Nam

Nixon

Panama

Terrorism

Oil

Iraq

Employment

Health Care

Habeus Corpus

Torture

And so many other things. Damn, you would have thought we could have outlasted the Roman Empire if not oonly pointed towards Global Peace.

1.  It was a pivotal point in history
They to me were the last hope of halting the direction this country has now taken .

Their ideals of never attacking another country or starting a war , or ridding us of nukes and addressing world issues with words and ways rather than attacks was the only way to steer the world on a better future and in an instant this was killed .

For no other reason are we where we are now . They saw the mistakes this country made in the past and were determined not to repeat them .

10. Surely you realize that the Kennedy's were not saints and were not
the last great hope of anyone? Surely you don't need the full laundry list?

12. No, not saints. But pretty fair public servants and leaders.
Why are you here? You don't seem to be fond of anything Democratic.

14. When have I ever spoken anything ill of Carter or Clinton?
When have I failed to praise my all time political hero FDR? When have I spoken out against socialized healthcare? When have I spoken out against equal rights, equal pay? When have I said anything untoward about Truman or the god-like Wilson? Just because I think that Kennedy was an average president spun far beyond his actual accomplishments? Just because I think Kucinich doesn't live on earth or that Edwards is a hypocrite you think I don't belong here? I'm strongly in favor of H.Clinton and Obama. Heck, I like Dodd too.

I believe that the Democrats are a flawed bunch but infinitely superior to the Repukes and certainly better than any other alternative. I'm no yes man though. And why the hell should I be? Kennedy wasn't that great of a president you know and his choice of VP sucked serious ass.

3. Nope.

Politics and perfection will never be equals.
JFK and Bobby were flawed men with vision.
There are others.
Now.
We won't benefit from the "others" until people stop being apathetic, educate themselves on the issues, and stop letting others make their choices.

6. Good points all.
Maybe it's just a chronological mark? As to when mass media began exerting its influence?

I don't know.

8. I think it does go in cycles. I'm sure it felt like the world
was falling in on the people during the civil war, depression, Vietnam, etc.

I think the media contributes a lot. Both good and bad. They beat things into the ground that should be non-issues and often ignore substance. Drama sells.

Welcome to DU!

5. Other than the Clinton years, where we had a republican congress
and didn't get as much done as we could have...it has been mostly republican rule. DAMN IT DOESN'T AMERICA think it is time we changed.

9. No. JFK was reckless and Bobby had worked for Joe McCarthy...
would the world have been a better place had they lived? Certainly.

11. No. The risk of others like them coming to power is the reason for media consolidation
The RW and Military Industrial Complex needed to be able to squash the campaign of anybody who might dare to rise to the occasion of offering REAL LEADERSHIP to the American People again.

Look at those the corporate media marginalizes and/or maligns and there are some people to help us be hopeful again.

MSM throws sand in our eyes so we can't see the real leaders who offer hope.

13. The Short answer: No. The long answer.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

As mentioned--both had flaws, but had some bizarrely captivating PR machine in addition to a generation that appears to have canonized them and their family.

A dangerous combination.

Evidence? The same sort of PR machine that made Reagan America's Grandfather, Giuliani America's Mayor, and Lil Boots, Someone folks want to have a beer with.

Maybe not the same PR people doing the spin job, but the same sort of rhetoric and mythologizing.
