WTF? Couple that can afford 600-700K wants a donation for an UWS NY apartment
I can't believe someone can be this crass and greedy. With the homeless and median income and lower income workers barely getting by these people are asking for this shit. UNFUCKING believable!

A family on the Upper West Side of New York has placed an ad in New York magazine pleading for $1 million to buy an apartment so they can stay in their wealthy neighborhood. Gawker spotted the ad and posted it here; it reads:

"WE NEED HELP BUYING AN APARTMENT on the UWS, 3bd 2 bath. YOU are a philanthropic, wealthy person who would not miss a million bucks and would be interested in donating (or even investing) in a highly targeted manner: to my family. WE are a wonderful, hard working middle class family who contributes to our UWS community, is entrenched, happy and desperately wants to remain on the UWS (lest the city lose yet another wonderful family to the burbs). We can afford 600-700K, so you see the predicament. Can you help us??"

3. Un-frigging-believable.
What the hell is this shit? People in NOLA needed help too. And they deserved it. More than these greedy bastards.

4. Notice how they aren't negotiating for a mortgage.
They're asking for downright charity.

Hmmm, wonder what the federal gift tax consequences would be?

5. To be fair, many families are being priced out of their homes in many neighborhoods in many cities.

Begging for money seems odd, but being priced out of your own home sucks.

This is happening to numerous African-American families here in Atlanta.

6. Oh, puh-LEEZE!
A quick check of the Times listings shows two such apartments for sale. Of course, both are on 108th St., which apparently doesn't suit the Greedheads. :sarcasm:

I'm not even going to bother looking at other sources such as the Village Voice, whre less expensive listings are often to be found. :eyes:

7. I would donate some money if they wanted to buy in the Upper EAST Side
the Upper West Side is kinda raunchy, don't you think?:sarcasm:

Why ask for just ONE million? Why not ask for ten million and then they could move into Park Avenue? I hope someone sends them a turd in a box. That's what they deserve.

9. Hey, I gotta try that!
The worst they can say is no.
A million bucks is worth what now, $300-400,00?

A quick look at realtor.com shows there are 975 listings under $200K in NYC (vs 42 listings in Los Angeles under $200K); I don't see why this deserving family should be sacrificed to the suburbs.
