Colo. Church Gunman Had Been Kicked Out
Colo. Church Gunman Had Been Kicked Out

By JUDITH KOHLER

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- The gunman believed to have killed four people at a megachurch and a missionary training school had been thrown out of the school about three years ago and had been sending the place hate mail, police said in court papers Monday.

The gunman was identified as Matthew Murray, 24, who was home-schooled by his family and raised in what a friend said was a deeply religious Christian household. Murray's father is a neurologist and a leading multiple-sclerosis researcher.

Five people - including Murray - were killed, and five others wounded Sunday in the two eruptions of violence 12 hours and 65 miles apart.

...

"It appears that the suspect had been kicked out of the program three years prior and during the past few weeks had sent different forms of hate mail to the program and/or its director," Detective Bradley Pratt wrote.

Earlier in the day, a law enforcement source who spoke on condition of anonymity said it appeared that Murray "hated Christians."

3. "hated Christians."
He probably did, after being indoctrinated in the faith for his whole life and then being rejected by them.

6. Yes
It was between god and the gunman. It was god's will. :sarcasm:
She's honored that god chose her. :puke:

10. Yeah, having a little belief on what motivated your unexpected courage is really terrible isn't it?
I mean had she said "my granddad teaching me how to shoot as a kid." It would've been just fine.

Or maybe "my law enforcement teacher in school."

But because she thanked God it's disgusting, wrong, evil, etc.

8. kestrel's take on THIS part:
"......home-schooled by his family and raised in what a friend said was a deeply religious Christian househol........" = tried-and-true recipe for psychosocial disaster

11. Obviously, which is why I don't understand why people are so against the "hated Christians" meme.
The guy obviously was a psychopath. And his upbringing led to it.

12. My nephews and niece were home schooled in a Christian home
and they have not killed anyone, don't see any desire from them to do so either.

They respect others and their beliefs, and are some of the coolest kids I know. While another niece I have went to public school and is a mess.

Public is good for some, not for others. I think it revolves around a lot of factors, and reducing it to one does not really address the core issues.

9. "Health issues" kept him out of the program, would those be mental health issues?
and was there no way for maybe the church to try and help him instead of kicking him out?
