Where were Hillary, Barack and Joe today?
Edited on Mon Dec-17-07 08:20 PM by Truth2Tell
Chris Dodd stood up for us today. He showed the Democratic leadership what it means to take a stand. Some of our finest had his back. Props to Boxer, Kennedy, Feingold and several others including (amazingly) my own senator Cantwell! See, see, see! We can fight and win!

But where was Hillary?

Where was Barack?

Where was Joe?

I thought they "promised" to help filibuster this bill?

Where were they? Anyone? Bueller?

4. I called them all

5. I am incredibly disappointed in Joe.
The other two as well.

I called Biden's office & expressed my extreme disappointment that he wasn't there. I reminded them that Dodd is also running for president & he found it more important to defend our Constitution than to campaign. I told them it would have sent a great message if all four of our Senator dem candidates were there speaking on the floor about the abuses of the current administration & shame on Biden, Clinton & Obama for not being there.

I'm pretty fucking pissed right now.

6. That's why Dodd gets my primary vote. He helped me make up my mind today.
I've always liked him. I love the fact that he is willing to decriminalize Marijuana too. He respects our Constitution enough to take time off from campaigning to spend a day fighting for it! A day! One freakin' day out of how many freakin' years have these people been campaigning? 2-3 years? ONE day out of years to defend THE CONSTITUTION. He deserves to be our nominee.

9. That's the question, is it not. I'm looking at Sen Dodd, again. Seeing him on the floor today was
inspirational.

THAT's what I want in a leader! MKJ

10. I'm sure the conversation in the Hillary camp went something like:
"To the Bat-Copter er Hilla-Copter, there's a constitution to be saved! Oh wait, it would conflict with my resolve to boot lick each and every corporation that every gave me any money? Nevermind...."

12. Dodd went way up for me as well.
If Dodd was better known, I bet he could take Texas. He's pro-civil liberties, fluent in Spanish but against illegal immigration. Unless he's pro gun control he could take it.

13. Hillary's Senate site
December 17, 2007

Statement of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton on the FISA Amendments Act of 2007

Washington, DC – “Today, the U.S. Senate took up the FISA Amendments Act of 2007. The bill under consideration gives telecommunication companies blanket retroactive immunity for their alleged cooperation in the administration's warrantless wiretapping program. I continue to believe that a grant of retroactive immunity is unjustified, and I have co-sponsored Senator Dodd’s measure to remove that provision from the bill. The Bush Administration has blatantly disregarded Americans’ civil liberties over the past seven years, and I simply will not trust them to protect Americans’ privacy rights.

I did not support cutting off debate today, and I will continue to oppose the bill as long as it contains retroactive immunity. I believe that we should pass balanced legislation that protects our civil liberties and the rule of law while giving our law enforcement and intelligence agencies the tools they need to protect our country.”

15. All the others phoned it in
That's why I like Dodd the best.

The absence of the others didn't bother me though. Since it takes 60 votes for cloture, not showing up counts as a no vote. Still, I'd like to see the others there to help with the filibuster part.
