Why were the Torture Tapes recorded in the first place?

Those who carried out the torture interrogations knew they were breaking International Law, needing to travel to black-site, secret prisons. Why did they videotape this highly illegal activity?

It must have been to view them later, or have them viewed by someone else. Intelligence analysts? Transcribers? Sick pleasure?

If this is standard, to tape interrogations, there should be hundreds more hours of the same technique. Al Gore said that at least 100 people had died during torture interrogations.

More tapes are out there, and many more have witnessed what is on them.

Again, I also wonder the format of the "tapes".
