Bolton: US 'helped precipitate' conditions for Bhutto's assassination
http://rawstory.com/news/2007/Bolton_US_helped_precipitate_conditions_for_1228.html

The US has seen its options for dealing with Pakistan crumble with Benazir Bhutto's assassination Thursday, and a former diplomat says American foreign policy decisions helped "precipitate" the former prime minister's death.

John Bolton, former US ambassador to the United Nations, said it was a mistake to collaborate with Bhutto's "desire to get back into the game in Pakistan" and view her as an alternative to the country's current leader, Pervez Musharraf.

"We in effect helped -- helped -- precipitate this dynamic that led to her tragic assassination," Bolton said Thursday on Fox News' Hannity & Colmes. "It's hard to see how that was the road to success."

Bolton said the primary concern of the US needs to be the security of Pakistan's nuclear arsenal. With Bhutto's death plunging the country into chaos, there is now a "very grave danger" the weapons will fall under control of radical Islamist militants within the Pakistani military.

"What we have now is a prescription for chaos

6. They supposedly have a rapid response program in place
in case Pakistan goes over a cliff.

That being said, THEY are administering that program.

12. The funny thing is, I think our batshit crazy morons are less able
than theirs. Theirs have more to lose.

What does BushCo have to lose? Nothing. Those nukes are aimed at India.

13. I know where those nukes are aimed
when you're dealing with probable fundamentalists of any stripe, they're more than willing to take innocents with them

you have fundamentalist Hindus in India who are willing to take a few of their fellow Hindus out in their quest to kill a whole lot of Muslims

but I don't think that the Bushies would let India get blown off the map

where would their buddies outsource to?

Bolton , who was a leading hawk in the US administration and favored a tough stance against Iran, North Korea and Iraq, told the Der Spiegel weekly that Bush needed to rein in Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

"(Bush) does not supervise her enough. That is a mistake," he was quoted as saying, adding that a moderate foreign policy was a threat to US security.

15. Just wonderin'...
given that Pakistan has a large, well trained and equipped military,...if we go in to "secure those nukes"...what can of worms will that open? I guess I am wondering if we could actually be successful at it...
