Petreaus Report, Countdown Question

This is all from memory, so there may be some gaps and mis-information, but:

A short time after the Petreaus Report was given, Keith Olbermann had a journalist guy on that stated that the Petreaus Report WAS NOT CRAFTED IN TOTAL by the White House. Indeed, this journo told Keith that Petreaus kept his report close to his chest and made sure the White House had no chance for input, vetting or censoring or rework.

Keith stated before this guy came on that the Report was crafted by the White House and Petreaus merely read it to Congress. Keith even THANKED THE GUY for making the correction!

So, which version is it? White House wrote it and Petreaus read it? or;

Petreaus crafted it on his own without any input what so ever from the White House?

I'm always infuriated by all the mis-information out there and I need DU help in setting the record straight. I'm a big fan of facts and truth and honesty.

may recall became known as the Petraeus Report.  Mr. Bush
eager to make General David Petraeus, the public face of the
conflict even if it was a political position and he was a
serving military man.  His opinion, the opinion, even if it
was heavily vetted if not written word for word by the White
House,……………………………..


RICKS:  I think it‘s going to be tougher than September in a
lot of ways.  I want to correct you though.  I don‘t think it
was vetted, the September testimony.  As best as I can tell
and I was out in Baghdad a couple weeks ago talking to people
about this.  The best I can tell Petraeus kept it from the
White House until the very last moment.  In effect, they
finished drafting the testimony just a few hours before he
gave it.  So there was really no chance for people to go over
it line by line.  ………………………….

3. I believe you've shown that Bush had only a few hours to rewrite/replace what Petreaus wrote
