I am an old fart .

However , to pass the point when the supreme court told bush go ahead , you are the president and to the day of 9/11 when the US decided to attack and bomb Afghanistan since this was dummed up in the news then it was off to Iraq because of the lies and fear .

Now here is where I need help . What was it that drove the people of the US to support either attack other than fear . The people I worked with at the time were not afraid , rather hated dark skinned people .

We can talk about morals , however if any person who claims to have morals how could they be sold on these attacks ?

Now I hear over 70% of the population want out of Iraq , is this a sudden loss of racism or fear , is it tht they know we are not winning , is it the affect this had on the economy , I don't really know , I was against both attacks from the start .

So have the american people changed ? what I see is any power even an employer is willing to toss anyone out in the street to save themselves , I see that it is easy to pick on the weak just as we did attacking Iraq .

I clearly remember all of the cars and trucks with the american flags stuck to the windows supporting this war and supporting bush . People even voted for bush a second time , even with the diebold many still voted a second time .

I ask again , how is it that people have changed suddenly and this seems to have been in the last few years .

To be honest I feel the only change is people who supported this horror only changed because they were affected in a bad way by this .

1. I think it is pretty simple. The average American is an idiot.

And the dumbasses always stand behind the perceived winner.

At this point, it has become painfully obvious (even to the average guy) that this Administration cannot find their collective ass with both hands.

2. The "Big Lie" doesn't work as well as it used to.

People who KNOW that there's a lie being perpetuated against the American people have, through the internet, an OUTLET for their information. It takes a lot longer to get the truth out that way. and the internet is still overcoming tremendous resistance... but it does come out.

No one likes being lied to.

3. There was a combination of things...

To begin with, the media jumped on the bandwagon, supporting the war. Congress was lied to. Many who voted fo war did so because of the supposed intelligence Joe Wilson warned us about. Valerie Plame paid the price for that one.

I personally, don't rememebr ever hearing the name Al Qaeda until 9/11, thought I do remember many of the attacks; the Cole, Beirut, etc. It seems they were credited to them once the fear machine was stoked up.

Americans were waiting for the other shoe to drop. The Soviet Union was over, and we needed something new to be afraid of and fight against. It's part of the American psyche to have an "enemy".

Once the rabid dogs of war were loosed, I recall a lot of fear of the government. The administration spoke of security and anti American threats to the point that many of us truly believed they'd be by to round us up any day.

One thing led to another, and now, even some of the stupid people who supported the regime are coming to their senses.

4. It's been my observation that

Americans don't object to war, they just hate losing. Even the dumbest will change their minds when it's obvious that they're going to lose, and have probably lost before they even got there.

6. I had huge arguments with my democratic (maybe even)

liberal FIL.

He wanted to strike back on those who attacked his country.
It was blind rage. From a well-educated and otherwise peaceful minded man.
