Images of a People's Movement
I stumbled across this website months ago and it's owned by veterans of the civil rights movement. I think you'll really enjoy their photo essay and the many stories posted explaining the meaning behind several of the photos. There are about 15 pages of photos in total and hope you enjoy.

Oh, I also put many of the photos in a video but there are many more at the website:

2. Wow, that was fast
I just want to make sure people know, at the bottom of each page, there's a "next" link that takes you to the next page of photos. :D

3. Wow. This is excellent.
I'm going to have to go back to read the stories behind the photos. So many good people working together. Truly inspiring.

4. People's Movement ?
...power of the people is just a quaint idea...sort of like the "streets belong to the people" or that "we shall overcome" stuff. there`s no place for the people in the new politics we just have to OBEY the state and all will be given.

I was pretty young when all this was taking place, but I do remember some of it. The articles/personal stories that go with the pictures are well worth the time to read.

Thanks for posting this. Now I have to check out your video.

edit: Nice job! I enjoyed it, and rated it up for you. I love your choice of music, too.

8. wow- this is part of my childhood
I remember some of the photos from the old "Look" magazine. Grandma was emphatically in favor of what the Civil Rights Movement was doing and discussed it with me.

We need a new version of SNCC.

12. These people showed us what COURAGE is ... and we've become cowards and criminals.
We talk and talk ... they walked the walk. We rant ... they bled. I was once proud of what my nation was BECOMING ... and am now ashamed of what it has BECOME.

These are images I saw as a teen in the 50s that filled me with aspirations graduating high school and listening to President Kennedy. Dr. King did a service to our souls and consciences ... and we've forgotten it. We wallow on soft seating and fail to honor the legacy of people who showed us the way. Shame on us.
