Everyday it gets harder and harder to call myself a Democrat.....
Today especially.
Pelosi and the rest of the Dems in Congress caving on the stimulus package.

Pelosi fighting impeachement tooth and nail.

Kucinich, after being ignored and shut out by the MSM and by his own party, ends his campaign.

The FISA Bill and telecom Immunity (ESPECIALLY MY SENATOR FEINSTEIN)

Vote discrepencies in a Democratic primary.

Attempts at voter supression in Nevada.

Do any of leaders of the party have my interests at heart?

I know I can never be a Republican but it is getting really hard to see myself a Democrat.

But I'm also maintaining my objectivity and recognizing that they're doin the best they can with what they have right now. It sucks, but that's the way it is. I so much hope that come 2009, things will far more often go our way.

I'm hangin in there. Gettin back in the swing of things on DU has most definitely started distracting me from reality a bit, so that's cool :)

And the kids are doin good. Too good. Man are they handfuls lol. But God do I love em!

20. Sorry, OMC, but I see no objectivity there.
I see a hell of a lot of rhetoric, followed by collusion. Then the hand wringing begins, followed by lame assed excuses.

Our "leaders" in Congress have been a total disgrace.

9. ditto - after the primaries (to vote for Edwards) I'm switching to independent- I
dont recognize this party as democratic party anymore.

Admittedly I'm to the left, but that used to be the democratic party.

Now we're marginalized as the left wing extremists of the democratic party.

15. "Do any of leaders of the party have my interests at heart?"
Nope. Not a one. This is my last election with these sellouts. I'm 42 and have voted straight dem in every single election. 2006 showed me what the new korporate dem party is all about. Say hello to the new boss, same as the old boss. Enough of this shit. I'm going independent after this year's puppet show.

21. If we have the glass half empty mentality and only look at the pessimistic version of events
Edited on Thu Jan-24-08 09:13 PM by mzmolly
yeah, it's pretty tough.

Your framing above is really interesting, for example:

Pelosi got concessions in the stimulus package, she didn't get EVERYTHING.

Pelosi doesn't wish to position a Republican VP in a position to win in November and unless we can impeach BOTH of the fools at once, that's what would happen.

Kucinich has about 1% of the Democratic vote, "shut out" is what happens when it's apparent you don't have a shot in hell.

So called "telecom immunity" brings us closer to impeachment as it would speed up any info they give to congress vs. having them lawyer up to protect themselves from legal consequences.

Voting discrepancies have happened in every election known to mankind.

etc...

MY interests go beyond a few weekly talking points and extend to the world at large. You keep that list handy and the "framing" that disappoints you if you wish.

Peace Bennyboy, I don't mean to sound dismissive. But, this IS a support/discussion group for Democrats, and I think the perpetually disappointed may need another? I have a difficult time with the 'disappointment' of the (murder for profit administration) we have in office now, I don't need a "less than perfect" laundry list of so called failures to focus on.

Oh yeah - flame away purists. :hi:

25. The point about the MSM choosing our candidate is well taken.
Kucinich has about 1% of the Democratic vote, "shut out" is what happens when it's apparent you don't have a shot in hell.

If I remember correctly, few people even knew who Bill Clinton was until he won the New Hampshire primary in 1992. Now, only 16 years later, Kucinich is all but out of the race, according to the media, less than a month into election year.

My how things have changed.

22. In 2004
after not being able to vote for my candidate AGAIN and sick of the enabling Dems, I switched my registration to the "OTH" party.

For thirty two years I had been a Democrat. Unfortunately, throughout those years, I remained the same as to what I believed in, but my party moved away from the values and issues I held dear.

This year I had until March 21 to decide whether to re-register. Upon hearing the news that Dennis has dropped out of the race, I have decided to remain a left leaning, liberal OTH.

23. couldn't agree more . . . the stench emanating from the Democratic Party . . .
has blended with the Republican stench to the point that they're indistinguishable . . . just one big toxic fume of inane political chatter and stupid policies that are sending the country right down the poop chute . . .

24. Whatever, nothing is better than being a Democrat.
Green? Forget it - only Republicans love them.

Make the Democrats stronger - then they will become more liberal. Just like the Republicans have gone rightwards as they have become stronger.
