And some people wonder why I hate sports (in principle)! Sports, in this case football, is considered more important than the Presidential election. Gee, now which one affects more peoples lives? Sure, people will still have time to vote, but if they're busy partying at the Patriots' parade, how many will bother? On the other hand, the ones who wouldn't bother are probably the ones who'd just vote for a dumbass anyway.

Edited to add: For the past however many weeks, each local news broadcast starts with about 10 minutes devoted to Patriots "news."

Edited again to add link I forgot to add.

1. More important than the election? Football's bigger than the Presidency itself!. . .
In 1985, Ronald Reagan delayed his inauguration from the Constitutionally mandated January 20 to the next day, January 21. He took the oath in a private ceremony on the 20th, but delayed the public event until the next day, ostensibly because January 20, 1985 was a Sunday.* The truth was, the 20th was Super Sunday, and Reagan didn't want the Monday headlines to read:

"49ers WIN SUPERBOWL"

reagan inaugurated

So which was considered more important by the people? A Constitutionally-mandated event? Or a football game?

*Reagan was in his right to do what he did. He was inaugurated as stipulated in the Constitution. There's nothing says the event has to be a public event, or that a celebration for the inauguration has to be held the day of the event, or even held at all. His choice that year was strictly a point of vanity. He just didn't want to be upstaged by a sporting event which held interest for far more people in the country than his taking the oath of office.

4. It's not their decision; it's the city's.
The city of Boston is the entity that puts on the parade. One would think that government officials/politicians would know better. Yeah, right!

5. Boo f'ing hoo!
Why the hell can't someone just do both (vote and attend a parade?)

If someone can't juggle their schedule or re-orientate their priorities who's fault is that?

It's amazing how people want to blame everyone else for people's inability to be responsible citizens.
