13. Sorry for the typos. I was so disturbed by that report, I couldn't type
and didn't take time to spell check. I think you all know what I was talking about. This is no joke.

Maybe we can put O'Lielly in charge of that situation.

Maybe he can also throw in some louffas.

14. Nobody gives a shit. Iraq is the main issue the establishment is desperately struggling with.
That's it in a nutshell. Haiti could be a tourist trap, but American dumping of products in Haiti's economy impoverished many people, and Jean-Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier's acceptance of the American-centric IMF programs and neoliberal privatization/deregulation schemes in the 1970s left Haiti's economy shattered.

When Aristide first came to power, he advanced a left wing/populist agenda that was against free trade and favored development, but the elites in Haiti did not want that and lobbied Washington to intervene. Bush I then ordered the CIA to kick him out and reinstall pro-American/pro-corporate forces into power.

16. Oh well. Fun's over. Typo's corrected.
You have to admit, that was funny.

The answer to your question is because Haiti is filled with brown people.

We don't send food to Haiti for the same reason we don't do a lot of things all over the world. There's no money in it.

countries hold grudges too, y'know?

I LOVE Haiti.. I went there in 1974, and always wanted to go back.. the people were so friendly and the place was gorgeous (parts of it).. The poverty was crushing and omnipresent, but people had managed to eke out a living somehow..

It's always saddened me to see how much grief has come to that tiny little place..

A reforestation plan, financial & food aid and education is about all that would be needed to repair some of the damage, but we continue to punish them...for some odd reason..

clearly definable line between Haiti and The Dominican Republic.

The Haiti side of the island has been denuded of trees.

Reforestation would take decades, but I agree, they need it desperately, among many, many other things.

On edit to ask - was it like that back in the 70's? It is my understanding that the trees have been gone for decades.

24. That's why we should have helped them start ..decades ago.
The Dominican Republic figured out a way to preserve their forest, and they still have food & relative stability..

Haitians took the trees to make charcoal and to sell off for desperately needed money.,.and to try to grow their own food, but that soil is not good for much more than the original forest that got cut down ..too late now.:(

18. Why don't you do just that?
Get together with some like minded people and then collect & deliver some aid down there.

Haiti isn't part of the US so I don't know why you expect the US gov't to spend money taken from American taxpayers on it.
