This amazing photograph gives whole new meaning to the phrase "May God strike me with lightning if ..."

Rio de Janeiro's world-famous statue of Christ the Redeemer was struck by lightning during a thunderstorm over the Brazilian city on Sunday.

It is the most prominent item around there. Probably hard to capture on film, but it's a natural lightning rod.

12. I vaguely remember something about the reason it was

put out there to begin with to act as a lightning rod. Or did I dream that? It's so long ago I can't quite remember but that Christ was considered the protector.
