"I Must Not Fear."
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 01:26 PM by FlyingSquirrel
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Just thought I'd post this today...

What's behind anger is usually fear, and there's been so much anger on DU.
Examine your fears, hold them up to the light of day, determine how
rational or irrational they may be, but remember to keep up your hope and
not allow fear to paralyze you or cause you to do or say things which may,
in the end, not serve your greater purpose.

(I'll try to do the same myself)

Edited to add: This is the Litany against Fear, (c) 1965 Frank Herbert (Dune)

1. WONderful!! K&R!!
Much-needed.
We should not fear even death, for that is the ultimate weapon they use against us.
I do not fear my own death, but I do sometimes fear the effects of the deaths of my loved ones, and I admit that is my weak spot. I'm working on it.

2. There is only fear and love
according to "A Course in Miracles". And we can always choose love. When we choose fear, we can choose to choose again.

One thing that can help if you find yourself in fear--breathe. Really. When people are afraid, their breathing patterns change (many hold their breath). If you consciously breathe in and out in a regular manner (for example, 4 counts in, 4 counts out), you'll find yourself getting calm, your blood pressure, if raised, will go down, and you'll be better able to think.

13. Step #1: Call it "excitement"
I have found that works ... even in Viet Nam.

3. "Only a fool has no fear." --Lt. Worf
But I'm still recommending your post. Worf and Kahless would approve, and so do I.

16. Right - so why is there a Moog in the background of the photo?
As a lifelong worshipper of the mighty Moog modular, it catches my eye.
Is Worf a musician?

18. I lived right near the Williamsville factory and in 1982 I toured
the Cheektowaga factory - as a potential customer for their circuit board assembly services. It was a dream come true.

5. Thank you for these great words.
I just got reintroduced to "Desiderata" (remember that?), and like the part where it says, "Do not distress youself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness." I'm sure that's what the fearmongers are counting on. As you said, let us face our fear until it is gone. We will remain and survive, and as Desiderata says, Go placidly among the noise and the haste.

Blessings to all. Keep the hope!
