http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=ad1Q46KKR2Tg&refer=home Feb. 13 (Bloomberg) -- New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo will sue UnitedHealth Group Inc. and subpoena 16 other health insurers to investigate ``dishonest'' reimbursement practices industrywide.
Cuomo said he plans to sue Minnetonka, Minnesota-based UnitedHealth, the largest U.S. health insurer, over practices that limit reimbursements to customers by claiming their medical charges were unreasonably high. Cuomo accused UnitedHealth of a conflict of interest in how it set limits on repayments.
``When insurers like United create convoluted and dishonest systems for determining the rate of reimbursement, real people get stuck with excessive bills and are less likely to seek the care they need,'' Cuomo said in a statement today.
UnitedHealth touched $44 after Cuomo's announcement, its lowest price in a year. It fell 5.5 percent, or $2.67, to $45.60 at 12:53 p.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading.
