Bush's "No Criticism" Haven (personal short story)
My spouse, who travels frequently on business, called me a short time ago with this story. It amused me, so I thought I'd post it here. It's also a "sign of the times."

He is in Houston and said he walked into a "Rice Epicurious" (apparently some food market there?) and saw a display of Laura Bush's book. In addition, there were magazines for sale with Laura's mug on the front, too. Anyway, he said the display struck him because it was so upbeat and positive about the bushes.

"I'm not used to this!" he said, explaining his airplane reading had been The Economist, the one with the headline "Saving the Bush Presidency" and with bush all bandaged up (see illustration below--also, as I understand it, the article is more about how the Dems should take advantage of his unpopularity). He also remarked about how every newstand and every kiosk seems to be populated with plenty of reading material on what a lousy job bush is doing as president.

When he commented on the oddity of the Laura Bush book display, someone told him geo bush sr lives in the neighborhood.

Wouldn't want to make Poppy cry, now would we?

No wonder Texans can be so scary. They don't get any real information about the bushes, world's number 1 crime family.

1. Mercy.
My neighborhood is old and tattered.

But it doesn't feel so lousy, when I remember there aren't any B*shes here . . . .;)

3. I think he was referring to
WSJ reporter Ronald Kessler's book on Pickles.

It's an "intimate portrait." Here's a little blurb from Publisher's Weekly.

:puffpiece:

He's the first author to secure her cooperation for a book project... The resulting portrait is unsurprisingly flattering; "as first lady," Kessler writes, Laura "is in a class by herself." In placing her on a pedestal, however, Kessler engages in a string of unsubtle jabs at her predecessor, assigning Hillary Clinton a range of faults from meanness to poor interior decorating skills.

These petty, pathetic individuals just couldn't leave Hillary out of it, could they?
