26. He should have won for Goodfellas
Edited on Mon Feb-26-07 03:07 AM by RummyTheDummy
I haven't seen The Departed, but I can say with relative certainty it's not as good as Goodfellas which was flawless. At least one gross injustice has been made right. Unfortunately, the other great Oscar injustice, Shakespeare In Love beating out Saving Private Ryan can never be made right. I really liked Shakespeare in Love, but it wasn't as impressive as Ryan.

7. I think it was a career award as much as anything....
He's done better movies than The Departed that haven't won. Good for him. After Hours is cult classic!

11. After John Stewart's comment about the 36 Mafia last year, Scorsese had to win
"36 Mafia, one. Scorsese, zero."

21. After Hours is great

King of Comedy is another hilarious flick from around that point in his career. Not quite as offbeat as After Hours, though ... I've liked all of his movies. :applause:

24. I forgot about King of Comedy - that was a funny one....
After Hours is one of those "signature films of my life" movies. I'm addicted to it.

29. Oh, yes! "After Hours" is one of my favourite movies of all time, and my No. 1 fave Scorsese!
I just watched it again about a month ago. Very tight filmmaking! No. 2 is "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore".

But I just hated everything about "Gangs of New York", unlike apparently everyone else in the world.

25. Not a surprise
Whitaker and Mirren were a sure bet as well as Hudson.

The surprise was the Departed getting best picture, and Alan Arkin for supporting role.

19. Yeah, he should have won for Goodfellas
But the Geriactric set over in Hollywood gave it to to 'Sleepwalks with Wolves' because they like an overlong plodding bombastic epic over any tightly directed film that actually gets to the point in less than three hours. Plus they felt the pangs of guilt fifty or sixty years too late in regard to their horrible treatment of Native Americans in film. Its like the 'Grannys', they are decades behind the curve and typically reward the worthy with the dreaded 'lifetime achievement' award.

I was particuarly watching Clint Eastwood, who of course was nominated as well (but obviously has won previously). Clint seemed genuinely happy for Marty. And, the standing nomination was really nice. I do feel for Peter O'Toole (although Forrest Whittaker is really a phenom as an actor), but at least they got one for Marty S.

He doesn't win for Raging Bull or Goodfellas, but gets it for a cops-n-robbers picture? Am I in goofyland?

20. I'm so thrilled Marty finally won! Yay!!!
What puts Scorsese on a level above everyone else, in my opinion, is the rewatchability of his movies and the straight-out entertainment factor. I can watch most of his movies over and over and over again and never get sick of them. Brilliant!

I am also thrilled that Lucas, Spielberg and Coppola were the ones to give him his MUCH DESERVED Oscar.
