10. Weren't they supposed to be available for problems on home soil?
And not generally used full-time as the occupying forces on foreign soil?

Oh, wait a minute ... that was the National Guard that Quayle and Bush43 signed up for, not everybody else ...

19. Before it was one weekend a month, it was 1 night a week.
That was a nostalgic time for me.

My Pop's drill night was Thursdays. As soon as I got out of school, we would get in the car and pick him up at his regular job. Then we would drive 100 miles for him to go to drill. My mom and I would visit relatives or friends then pick him up at the National Guard Armory and drive the 100 miles home. He would drive down and sleep on the way back.
As soon as he went to sleep, I could listen to my favorite radio station, WBZ. I heard Simon and Garfunkel on WBZ before I heard it played on the local DC stations. The DJ, Bob Kennedy, had a thing going about the Duke of Schrewsbury was the true inventor of meat between two slices of bread, but the Evil Earl of Sandwich stole his invention. Around Halloween, the DJ would recite "The Highwayman" in a way that would send chills down my spine.

15. Ohio Governor Ted Strickland has been speaking out to keep the Ohio Guard at home
He has figured out how to make this message work for him--and to get this damn war over with. He will never lose running against GW Bush

21. Heard.
That picture's either old or in Kuwait, tho. Nobody drives around here any more in unarmored trucks and Humvees.

Looks like Iraq; probably from 2004 or so. They're wearing the old DCUs and Kevlars, so definitely pre-2006.
