LIBBY TRIAL: Bush Admin Targeted Wilson's Wife Long Before Wilson's Article Published in NY Times
But information and testimony revealed during the course of the Libby Trial indicates that it wasn't Wilson's op-ed piece that set the off the chain of events leading to their disclosure of the CIA WMD analyst and her covert network. The Bush administration began its campaign to discredit Valerie Plame/Wilson at least a month prior to the release of her husband's article.

<snip>

But when Wilson wrote his book, he did not have access to the behind-the-scenes discussions about his wife which have now been revealed by the perjury and obstruction trial of I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Vice President Cheney’s former chief of staff. Retaliation there was, in spades, but testimony and documents in the Libby trial demonstrate, unrefuted, that administration discussion of Mrs. Wilson began several weeks before Wilson’s column even appeared.

The reasons for that are still unclear, and the prosecution was not permitted to delve into other aspects and ramifications of the leak. But that the administration was already targeting both Wilson and his wife, Valerie --- overseeing a crucial intelligence network monitoring WMD activity in the middle east --- is now beyond question.

1. Exactly - her firm was likely too close to truth that the armsdealing networks that

had been enabling global terrorism was the CONTINUATION of the IranContra, BCCI efforts of Poppy Bush and his cronies.

Scooter Libby was Marc Rich's lawyer - Rich was being presented as a tax evader for his pardon, but he was a key player for the BFEE in IranContra and BCCI.

Does anyone believe that Poppy Bush and his terror financing friends woke up one day in Jan 1993 and STOPPED dealing in the drugs, arms and moneylaundering that had been facilitating global terrorism for decades?

No - they still had enough control over the WH and in the private sector to pull it off BIGGER with NO investigations being pursued by a pesky congress like they had to endure while Poppy was in office.

3. Hadn't Wilson Already Come Out "On Background"??
I recall reading that Wilson had given some "off the record" background interviews that indicated the Niger Yellowcake claim was a fruad...this was about the same time as Hans Blix and the U.N. had. Surely this had to have been crashcart's wake-up call. This dude has micromanaged this invasion and seeing his notes in the margins of Novakula's article all but indicates he was well aware of Wilson/Plame. One doesn't get on his radar without pissing off Shooter and then stays there to feste

I suspect the missing pieces that haven't come out during this trial...due to its limited focus...will come forward during the Wilson's civil suit.

Should we get a Libby verdict today, that won't be the end...even if he's acquitted...there's a lot more questions to be answered and "sand to removed" from OUR eyes.

Cheers...

4. The nature of Plame's duties really leads me to believe her firm, too, needed to
go down.

6. Very Much...But...
Had Wilson remained quiet, would Chenney still have had to destroy Brewster-Jennings? I tend to think so as the intel had already been proved fraudulent by the U.N. started to speak out. One thing I would love to see investigated was the tapping of U.N. diplomatic phones in the run-up to the war...and the heavy handed tactics this regime (especially Cheney) used to intimidate the vote that would "satisfy" the IWR resolution and was the final small obstacle to starting the carnage.

7. Heh - a shame we have to wait so long for dribblings of truth.
I think support for real open government measures should become part of the 2008 campaign.

5. ".... and the prosecution
was not permitted to delve into other aspects and ramifications of the leak." -- That statement is not accurate. The prosecution was for Libby's lying to the FBI investigators and to the grand jury. For that reason, Mr. Fitzgerald kept his case focused on proving that. It was his decision to keep focused on the case at hand.

10. I'm wondering where it goes from here.
Wasn't the task he was orginally charged with was to find out the source of the leak?
