Dear Governor Siegelman Feb. 25, 2008

Happy belated birthday, although that surely rings hollow given your unjust circumstances.
We’ve never met, but I’ve supported your campaigns since I returned to Alabama in 1993.

I don’t know if you were able to watch 60 Minutes last night, but it has to be one of the best birthday presents you could get. Links to the video of that segment are all over the internet this morning.

I just want you know that the whole sordid story of your prosecution/persecution has finally ‘gotten legs’. I don’t think they can sweep this one under the rug or make it go away. I’m doing all I can to spread the word. As soon as I finish this letter I will write my congressman, Jo Bonner. Of course I don’t expect Mr. Bonner to do anything, but I think he needs to hear about this from some of his constituents.

I’m sure I don’t need to tell you this, but this sure ain’t the country I grew up in. And I’m afraid it’s going to take us a long time to get it back on an even keel.

I’ve been following your case as best I can for several months.
I hope you can take some encouragement from the knowledge that there are more and more of us who are coming to realize what happened and why.

I very much look forward to meeting you some day and shaking your hand.
