< OFFICER POSING AS HIGH SCHOOLER LEADS DRUG STING

9 Are Arrested in Falmouth

FALMOUTH -- She was new in school, a demure blonde with a sob story.

With her mother dead and father chronically absent, the girl said, she needed to get high to kill the pain. For three months, students at Falmouth High bought her story and sold her the drugs she said she needed.

But yesterday, the real story emerged.

The girl who some students yesterday said they knew as Keane was in fact a fresh-faced cop whose three months at Falmouth High School culminated before the start of classes yesterday when nine teenage boys were led out of their homes in handcuffs on charges of selling her marijuana and ecstasy.

Police had decided on the strategy in response to some parents' complaints about rampant drug use at Falmouth High School. But the tactic enraged other parents, who said the teens had been lured in by a dishonest and manipulative police sting inappropriate for a public high school.

"My kid was impressed by this pretty undercover drug officer," said the mother of a 16-year-old Falmouth student arraigned yesterday in juvenile court.

"He has issues with low self-esteem, and this pretty girl gave him attention," said the mother. "He wanted to impress her by providing her with what she needed. The approach by the police was not justified. Drugs may be a problem at the school, but they have to change their approach."

The undercover officer had presented herself as a senior whose mother had recently died and whose father was in the Navy, according to students. >

15. I saw it on reddit, and one of the comments compared it to a firefighter starting fires to keep his
job. Utter madness.

4. This is entrapment with a capital "E"
because I'm sure she used plenty of flirting to get what she wanted. Some of those kids undoubtedly went to great lengths to find somebody to front them drugs so they could get into her pants.

I doubt they got any real dealers, just horny high school kids and those susceptible to pity parties.

The only drug scene I knew there was grass and, if you were rich enough, coke. You had to drive to Boston or Providence to find anything more dangerous.

5. The Police in Pullman, WA
used to do this all the time when I was a student at WSU. They would have attractive female undercover officers hang out at the popular college bars and troll for guys to sell them drugs. "I'd love to go to your place, but gee, I'd really like to smoke a joint first..." Tons of guys who would never usually go near pot or coke found themselves on their cell phones trying to call someone who knew someone who knew someone to track down the goods for some hottie they thought they were getting lucky with. The student paper finally caught wind of the racket and did an expose on it, but a bunch of otherwise non-drug dealing guys had the book thrown at them by the local zero-tolerance drug courts.

12. Undercover narcs were roaming high schools long before this incident.
Undercover narcs were roaming high schools long before this incident. As early as 1982, the new kid in school would undergo serious scrutiny to ensure he wasn't a narc. It's nothing new, and if it hasn't come to that by now, it probably won't.

13. Perhaps it has come long before. I haven't been around that long, and
it's the first I've ever heard of such an incident, and it just sickens me.

14. No worries-- it hasn't.
"Perhaps it has come long before."

No worries-- it hasn't. Kids start in new schools all the time, and make friends just as fast. The ones that don't make friends easily usually have perceived problem other than simply being perceived as a possible narc.

17. Exactly. the only message I see here is...
don't help people who are sad and "appear" to need friends because they are probably undercover narcs who will fuck you over.

so shun outsiders, ignore the new kids and if a cute girl is interested in you, you know it's bullshit.

22. this is why us gun nuts know we better protect
ourselves since the cops are out looking to suppress victim-less crime. Its so much safer tahan actually going after dangerous criminals. Wouldn't want that prostitution sting to get in the way of preventing a homicide or something.

24. This happened in my school in the 1980's. The "undercover" cop was literally "under covers"
as she slept with and moved in with a local student. The student was 18 at the time so she was not charged with any crime herself. She later testified against him in court. He was devastated.

What a waste of tax money. Why don't the "feds" go after adults who sell to children vs. kids selling a joint or two to a girl they want to impress?
