There's A Reason Guilliani Is Ahead Of McCain....
Well, there are several, but it does demonstrate something in particular, IMO.

People are looking for someone right now who appears to be "outside" of politics. Guiliani has been out of office for several years now, and is not closely associated enough Now with the * administration, to suffer the damage McCain is.

I know someone on the Democratic side who has been away for politics even longer.....6 years now.

7. He was on GMA this morning and when asked his response was
"at this time" -- that isn't "ain't gonna run no more" - I will bet you that supporters had surveys/polls/focus groups monitoring the Oscars and registering their responses to the show, including Ellen's joke and his bit with Leo and his comments when The Inconvenient Truth won the Oscar.

The results will be reviewed by people that want him to run and they will be presenting it to him in an effort to get him to agree to win.

I would betcha $100 that he won't commit until he gets to pick his VP and doesn't have to run with a Clinton again.

13. Well, I'd certainly vote for him . . .
A do a little campaign work as well. He's undoubtedly the most qualified of the current crop of potential candidates -- and could do worse than picking up Edwards or Clark as Veep.

I couldn't see him on the same ticket with Hillary. And I don't think she'd take number 2 anyway.

The sad thing is, if Gore had run *with* Clinton in 2000 rather than *away* from him, there would never have been a second Bush presidency.

3. Maybe that's why
I like General Clark so much. Not much political baggage (although a four star general is certainly a politician.) And he has the administrative experience of any State Governor.

Gore-Clark - powerful team.

5. I Think McCain Tried to Play Both Sides of the Fence
It doesn't work any better when a Republican does it. You can't be a principled, straight-talking maverick with well known moderate positions and then sound like a Bush sycophant. It plays as pandering.

And I think a lot of conservatives and evangelicals have never forgotten McCain branding Falwell and Robertson and "agents of evil." That's pretty much the kiss of death in the GOP primaries.

6. That, and people only know what they saw after 9/11
Before that, he was an abysmal mayor. He did weird and awful things, both in his private life(crossdressing and abusing his wife), and on the mayoral stage(bussing the homeless out of the city, and inhibiting freedom of expression at every turn)...people just know him as "America's Mayor"...much like Bush, he stepped up when the nation needed to hear something uplifting, and his speechwriter put him in the history books. If it weren't for 9/11, he wouldn't have grounds to even think about running.

8. Rudy's The Flavor Of The Moment
Since 9/11, the corporate media...especially those based in the Beltway and Northeast (Tweety) have been running a stealth campaign for Rudy..."Ameurica's Mayor" :puke:. The diefication of Rudy as this "strong, resolute" leader was the meme...one that plays very well into the authoritarian mindset of the Repugnican "mainstream". And since these people are very impressionable, they bought the PR and hype, no questions ever asked.

All the "frontrunner" and poll shit means little more than a feedback of the hype and crap the corporate media's been throwing out for the past several years. McCain fell off the "straight talk express" and got himself in deep shit with the corporate media when he tried to champion blocking more media consolidation...since then he's been portrayed as old and pandering.

Personally, I'd love Rudy to be the candidate...nothing would make me feel better than seeing that scumbag roundly rejected. An intersting poll shows the "bi-partisan Rudy" has only a 10% approval rating from Democrats and around 50% for Independents...the more people see of Rudy the more they don't like him. Plus, the fundies are sure to get pissed in the months to come and Rudy will be in their sites.

Get ready, the GOOP "bench" is very weak going into '08...Rudy's the lesser of the evils...but it won't be enough to reunite a party destroyed by 6 years of booosh whacking.

9. I hated Rudy as mayor
but I respected his actions on 9/11. But you don't want to be poor, down on your luck, or need a helping hand and have to rely on Rudy.

11. then there is Edwards who had only a single term in the Senate and it can even work in Obama's favor
since he is still in his first term in the Senate.

12. Forget McCain. More remarkable is the recent Quinnipiac that
has Guilliani beating all three of the top Dem candidates (Hillary, Obama, Edwards) well outside the margin of error. Still polling below 50% though.

I hate this early political season, but that poll made me glad it's still only Feb.

:scared:
