Even Bush's Buddies Find Him Incompetent
Bush's best buds in the Arab world are refusing the prairie monkey's request that OPEC "open its spigots," as he famously spoke during the 2000 campaign. According to an article in today's New York Times: "Oil prices reached a record close, surging above $104 after OPEC decided Wednesday to keep its production unchanged. The cartel ignored calls from President Bush to pump more oil into an ailing economy. OPEC rebuffed its top consumer, arguing that the world was well supplied with oil . . .. Chakib Khelil, OPEC’s president this year, said the high price of oil was not due to a lack of supplies. Instead, he cited the 'mismanagement of the U.S. economy' and blamed financial speculators for driving up prices."

Mismanagement of the U.S. economy - yup, that's our Bush! Wonder if Furious George will still hold hands with King Abdullah at their next meeting. And good luck to Insane McCain this November when gas prices top $4.00 a gallon, and let's not event alk about groceries. Good thing Bush and Johnny Mack held that presser yesterday to alert the public that McCain was opposed to ANY meaningful change in Bush policies and promised to faithfully follow in Dim Son's stellar footsteps.

That ought to cinch it.

And New Yorkers got a shock today when a small bomb was detonated near a military recruiting station in Times Square. "'No one was hurt' Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Thursday. But Kelly said the device, though 'unsophisticated,' could have caused 'injury and even death'" according to Newsday reports earlier today.

Uh-oh. What happened with your son? My sister's improving steadily, thanks. They took her off the ventilator today at around noon (she just had oxygen) and was still off it when my niece and I left at around 4:30. They're looking into rehab facilities now, they want to get her up and around as soon as they can to keep her lungs from filling up again.

He wrote in and defaced a math textbook, although part of it could've been what was taken as off color slang, which Cory probably intended...anyhoo $50 bucks that he's already paid back to me and 2 days of in school suspension, plus whatever else I come up with and having to deal with my stating that "you've know better than to deface a book since before you were 2 yrs. old" and all of those other 'I'm a pissed off parent' phrases that come to mind.

I really don't like it when I have to go into that mode and they usually don't like it either. :evilgrin:

42. Two of my nephews stayed with me for a month about 6 years ago.

The older one, who was 14 at the time, was a bit of a handful. He "got lost" for a couple of hours walking back to our apartment from my sister's house (it's about a 10 block walk and all of it on the same avenue). With my sister's permission, I grounded him for a week and the only tv he was allowed to watch was C-span. He was not a happy camper and for the duration, I ceased being his "cool" aunt.

50. Just yesterday one of Lucas' friends followed them home from

school and Lucas informed me that friend said, "your mom looks nice and she looks and acts like she's nice, too." Lucas told him, "yeah, until you step too far out of line and piss her off and there's nothing about that that is pretty."

53. I know what you're going through, Ichingcarpenter. One of my puddy-tats is epileptic.

(Although my vet says cats technically don't have "epilepsy"). But she has seizures while sleeping and simultaneously goes rigid, jerks, foams at the mouth, and pees uncontrollably. And you're right about the disorientation afterward. If we're around when it happens, we just hold her until she regains awareness. She makes heartbreaking squeaks as if her surroundings are unfamiliar, so we try to cuddle and reassure her.:cry:

and it is over minutiae. We are being distracted from the real news of the day: the failing economy, rising cost of energy, warring going on in other parts of the world, and the Pentagon awarding mega-contracts (airplane construction) to a foreign company instead of Boeing.

From what I can tell, the Pentagon was dishonest with Boeing in the bidding process, knowing they would not know to bid what they said they really wanted: some super large aircraft that they are going to have to spend more money on to maintain and rev up the infrastructure to fly it. But I was just watching The NewsHour's story on this.
