bush requested $7.7 million in cuts to Ryan White grant funding
Mods - please note, I am posting this here as I do all the senate press releases - it is not an endorsement of Hillary during these primaries - I am no fan :) Posting this in GDP would just be a flame war and miss the more important issue (bush being a jerk, yet again)

Clinton Welcomes More than $100 Million in Ryan White Grants for Dutchess, Long Island, New York City

Funding Provides Valuable Assistance to Programs Supporting Americans Living with HIV and AIDS

Washington, DC - Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton welcomed news that Ryan White grant funding has been awarded to New York City, Dutchess County, and Long Island. The Ryan White program funds important medical and supportive services for Americans living with HIV and AIDS.

“I am pleased to see increases in Ryan White funding across New York, particularly those for programs targeting minority communities," Senator Clinton said. "However, increases in Long Island's funding were due largely to efforts from Congress to restore funding for the areas hardest-hit by Ryan White cuts. I would call upon the Bush Administration to support increases for Ryan White, especially for cities and counties where the epidemic has had the greatest impact.”

Overall, three localities in New York received additional funding for this grant year. Dutchess County received over $1 million in funding, including an additional $9,000 in Minority AIDS Initiative funding. The Long Island region received $4.9 million, $500,000 of which comes from additional funding awarded in last year’s omnibus appropriations bill. New York City's overall award increased to $103 million.

News of these grants came after President Bush's budget requested $7.7 million in cuts to Ryan White Part A, through which the grants are provided to localities in New York and across the nation. Senator Clinton has long supported efforts to increase overall funding for the Ryan White program, and worked to increase funding to Long Island and Dutchess County in last year's appropriations omnibus. In 2006, she worked to broker a compromise reauthorization for the Ryan White program that prevented tens of millions of dollars in losses to New York.
