Help Me Get NEAL BOORTZ f-i-r-e-d...he ridiculed a 9-year-old learning disabled boy this morning!!!

This is no shit, people. This morning Neal Boortz used his nationally-syndicated radio program to ridicule a nine-year-old boy with a learning disability.

Here's the back story: earlier this week, a piece of green ice fell through the roof of a tire shop in Lula, Georgia, bringing on a swarm of reporters. One reporter recorded audio of the shop's owner and his son responding to the strange incident.

Well, these are country people from rural Georgia. (I lived in a trailer a few miles east of them for four years myself.) So what does Boortz do?

He plays the tape of the father and the boy over and over again, laughing it up and ridiculing the way the boy speaks and demeaning the boy's future. A real class act, that Boortz.

That's so far over the line, it should make national news...and we can make that happen. Call your local radio station or newspaper and raise a little hell over this. Post it at any blog or discussion board you frequent.

This morning, Boortz gave me the perfect opportunity for (perfectly ethical) payback. And here it comes!

I hate to say it, but it's true. It's an "acceptable stereotype." One that I, not a southerner, but having lived down that way, find to be most unfortunate.

Folks like Larry The Cable Guy take the "edge" off of that sort of regional mockery.

I don't listen to the asshole Boortz, and won't, but without hearing what the guy said, in context, it's difficult to protest authentically. Do we know the child is learning disabled? How do we know this? What was said?

If you can find audio, put it up--it might help your effort.

I don't like Boortz for a lot of reasons...this kind of crap being one of them. But I have heard the little boy and to be honest, while understood every word he said, I got no feeling that he was disabled in any way and have not yet heard that part of the story. Where do you get that? And if that little boy is NOT disabled (and I am admitting that I have no knowledge of this one way or the other) he SHOULD learn to speak more clearly or his future ISN'T so bright...Boortz being a jerk, aside...

then, in that case, personal knowledge of this boy's disability was not known by Mr. Boortz (and I use Mr. loosely) and he really can't be faulted for THAT. Yes, he is a jerk; hell, I don't think you should make fun of anyone, but if he didn't KNOW that, then it would never be taken into consideration for disciplinary action...

If it was just some kid talking, then, yes he would need to improve his diction...but he still should not be made fun of.

to make fun of any 9-year-old child on national radio is way, way out of line. Boortz knew the child had a thick accent and talked kind of oddly...there's just no excuse regardless of what Boortz knew IMO.
