New sins announced by Vatican
The Vatican has told the faithful that they should be aware of "new" sins such as causing environmental blight. The guidance came at the weekend when Archbishop Gianfranco Girotti, the Vatican's number two man in the sometimes murky area of sins and penance, spoke of modern evils. The list includes; genetic modification, carrying out experiments on humans, polluting the environment, causing social injustice, causing poverty, becoming obscenely wealthy, and taking drugs.

I thought the Vatican was obscenely wealthy.

4. What about molesting children and leaving them
emotionally traumatized and unable to trust most adults again? Does the church think that is a sin yet?

17. Fox and CNN type "news" broadcasting and mediawhoring.
That should count. It is something more than just plain old lying because of the scale and technology. A new circle in Hell is needed.

like the focus on the environment. It's important, and it shows that we are supposed to respect the earth to make it habitable for future generations.

23. Yes, and it is interesting that they are including "sins"
that are committed by institutions rather than just those committed by individuals. I don't think this is new, and I don't agree with all their choices, but that one is certainly a good one. And the evangelicals have caught on to this too, even if its a little late. We are supposed to take care of the earth, not trash it.

26. FYI. Here's a complete list of the old and the new. I don't think Bush and Cheney
do too well with this expanded list.

Old

Sloth
Envy
Gluttony
Greed
Lust
Wrath
Pride

New

Genetic modification
Carrying out experiments on humans
Polluting the environment
Causing social injustice
Causing poverty
Becoming obscenely wealthy
Taking drugs

exposing a CIA agent?

lying about WMDs?

yucking it up at a birthday party while thousands of people are fighting for their lives in a hurricane?

sitting like a dummy reading a childrens book like an idiot while your country is being attacked?

not getting treatment for your substance abuse problems?

29. I'm pretty much in favor of this
Aren't these things that we think are sins too?

"Polluting the environment
Causing social injustice
Causing poverty
Becoming obscenely wealthy"

You realize that means Catholics can't vote Republican anymore?

30. And since Dems are "baby-killers"
they can't vote for our side either. So I guess they'll finally be in the same position as the rest of us: realizing that neither side is perfect, but the Democratic party is better.
