An open letter to Governor Spitzer.
I must say that your private actions that have recently been revealed really disappoint me. We’ve all been here before with President Clinton. Did anyone not learn anything from that? Obviously, you didn’t, but that was just a master class for your political opponents. Now they own everything including a DOJ that wiretaps and prosecutes for political purposes. Did you think that you were the invisible man?

So, here’s my deal. Aside from your gaping blind spot, I would still like to believe that you are the smart guy that I’ve supported over the years. Did you break any laws other than your marriage vows? Are you the next Don Siegelman? Can they really put you away and destroy your entire career over minute distortions/interpretations of the law? Can you fight this? If you can and I believe you are the guy to do it, I will support you.

Yes, you fucked up, but you’re not the first or last person to do that. Likewise, you’re not the first political target of a corrupt, partisan DOJ. Will you fight to be the last? If you don’t or can’t, there will surely be more to follow. I hope you give them hell.

And in the meantime, I sympathize with you and your family. I can only hope that your family can resolve this. I wish you well.

In the long term, politically speaking, it might be a blessing if it serves to unleash the lion of justice that I voted for in every election. You were targeted. Even if you only have a big toe to stand on, please, don’t allow these tactics to continue. Fight it. Do not resign.

1. Wow!
A real Democrat posted in support of the governor. I was about ready to hurl given all of the tripe I've seen on this board. Really disgusting.

Thank you for saying this -- especially the bit about not resigning.

Happily recommended.

3. Spitzer's resignation will at least elevate a real progressive to the governorship.
I think his staying in office to fight this (which isn't going to happen anyway, most likely) would do much more harm than good.

7. Spitzer deserves little support..
"Obviously, you didn’t, but that was just a master class for your political opponents. Now they own everything including a DOJ that wiretaps and prosecutes for political purposes. Did you think that you were the invisible man?"

Spitzer is a hypocrite on using law enforcement tools for political gain, he should have stepped away from elected office right then!

"Did you break any laws other than your marriage vows?"

Well, if the allegations are correct, he transported a prostitute across state lines for the purpose of sex. Spitzer himself went after prostitution rings, this reeks..

--

He needs to resign, the man has done massive amounts of good in his life but right now for so many reasons he needs to step down. As a private citizen he will not be a tool to be used by corporations as they push for 'their guy' in coming elections.

As a private citizen he will be better able to heal his family and he and his family deserve the chance to heal outside of the public light.

Perhaps he can for a non profit to go after corporate abuses, the man can be ten times the PITA to them that he is now, especially as crippled as he will be by this..
