Mrs. Greenspan's warning re: Spitzer (transcript)
Here it is. Is this why Wall Street is cheering Spitzer's fall? Is this why the market rallied today?

From Hardball, Monday:

MITCHELL: Let me make one other somewhat more substantive non-political point. Right now the governor of the state of New York is a principal negotiator involving Wall Street, insurance companies, the hedge funds. There are a whole lot of financial issues he has been involved in behind the scenes trying to negotiate some sort of stability for the markets.

This is the worst possible time for the governor of the State of New York, Wall Street, the center of finance in this country, to be taken out.

2. her face was exceptionally grim...
...when she made that statement. She oughta know the ramifications of this more than any pundit. What's the back story, Andrea?

3. the dow jump because the fed dumped 200 BILLION into the economy - link

On Tuesday, the Fed announced it would offer up to $200 billion in ultra-safe Treasury securities to the nation’s banks, including several major brokerage firms, in exchange for a variety of collateral options — including the very mortgage-backed securities that have spurred the recent financial crisis.

4. there is the small matter for the $200B liquidity
coordinated move by FED and other central banks as well.

Look at it this way, those organizations agreed to accept potentially worthless paper at collateral.

5. When will this creepy country we live in grow up!!
What if Ben Franklin had been dismissed from his political life for his frolics in France!

Sheesh!

Prostitution is respecrted in every other country in the world for one reason - it helps society.

Isn't it better that someone like Spitzer, who either has a large appetite for sex, a large appetite for the power/control scenario that prostitution reinforces, etc. do his "business" in an upscale manner?? Rather than the alternative. (Okay, ideally no one would ever seek sex outside of marriage, but that's not the world we live in.)

Some men initiate tawdry affairs that break not only their spouses' hearts, but the hearts of the women they involve themselves with.

You pay for an escort service, and no one's heart is broken.

6. I do believe it is
the hypocrisy that did him in. He busted up many competing prostitution rings.
