Newsweek: 50,000 soldiers seriously wounded.
Edited on Tue Feb-27-07 04:51 PM by Danieljay
About 50,000 service members so far have been banged up or burned, suffered disease, lost limbs or sacrificed their mental well-being while implementing American policies in dangerous places.

So sad.

Per the request... Photos of our wounded brothers and sisters.

5. A huge number wouldn't have survived their injuries 30 years ago...
The human cost of this war in this perspective is more like Vietnam than people think. Lost lives goes beyond death count.

20. Sure, but what's their definition of "serious"?
As opposed to Newsweek's definition?

22. Not sure of Newsweek's
DOD doesn't count you as seriously wounded unless you're unable to return to duty in some fairly short period. Basically, anybody who gets evaced from Iraq to Germany is considered seriously wounded.

3. For 50,000 wounded, ~3,500 dead...
ten thousand desertions or more?

How long can these losses be sustained without a draft?

9. If any thread need pictures, it's this one.
And I don't mean pictures of a strong young man with a tidy folded sleeve, I mean pictures of some of the seriously damage people of all ages who are coming home to live with this the rest of their lives. Going by what happened after the Viet Nam War, Baghdad will be a tourist paradise and these people will be left forgotten in back rooms.

12. What would the death toll be, if our troops in Iraq had access only to...
...Vietnam era medical care? I'm happy that the survival rate is better, these days, but, in measuring the violence our troops face in Iraq compared to the violence they faced in Vietnam, the death toll is probably an extremely inaccurate indicator.

18. Agreed .Counting these people as wounded inevitably puts people In mind of something like
John Kerry's shrapnel wounds. Not to denigrate John Kerry, but all too many envision a flesh wound that is painful but easily repaired.

15. How much longer do we have to put up with this shit? This makes me sick.
These kids went into the service WITH NOBLE INTENTIONS and these thugs stole their way into office and lead this country into an immoral war based on LIES and have GROSSLY PROFITTED FROM IT while using our soldiers as disposable pawns-not supplying them with the proper body armor, and sending them back again and again. They are doing it on the cheap while billions are missing and billions more have found their way into the coffers of the corporate robber barons like Halliburton and other buSh corporate cronies. These guys are getting FILTHY RICH at the expense of our military. STOP THIS MADDNESS!

Can someone please explain to me why there are any Dems who do not support Murtha's bill? Seriously, why should they send folks into battle w/o b eing fully trained or protected?
