A wonderful story about Ben Affleck
So I talked to my mom-dukes tonight and we gave each other updates on what's going on with our lives, etc. Last time we spoke a few weeks ago, I had learned that one of her life long friends (Both born and raised in Cambridge, like me) had lost her granddaughter to SIDS (5 months old). I had gone to school with the baby's mother in high school (she was a grade behind me) and she was a wonderful person (the whole family is actually) and my heart broke for her. It was her first child. :(

Anyhow, tonight I asked about her and her family, and my mother gave me the latest update.

The mother has been living in CA for years, and she's an organizer for charities, and charity walks, etc. She recently attended a SIDS walk, and was devastated that only about 100 people showed up for the walk, so she's now going to devote herself to SIDS charities and walks.

Anyhow, just recently, my mom's friend was having dinner at a restaurant in Cambridge, when she noticed that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner we're eating at a nearby table (he's filming here now, and he's a Cantabrigian). She decided to approach him about possibly helping with SIDS awareness, and the SIDS walks her daughter is now working on. She waited until they were done eating, and followed them out the door.

She said, "Mr. Affleck, I would never in a million years do this, but I have to"

Ben had a look of, "Oh, an autograph seeker" and was ready to just sign an autograph and move on. So she went on and told the story of her daughter, and granddaughter and asked if he could do anything to help with the walks, and such. By the time she was finished, Jennifer was bawling her eyes out, and Ben was having trouble not bursting into tears.

Ben whipped out a pen and piece of paper, and wrote down a contact at his company. He apologized that he wouldn't be back in CA for a while as he's filming here, but he'd love to help, and when he gets back he'll take part in the next walk, and do whatever else he can.

Ben Affleck, a good guy, and my homie. :patriot:

6. What a wonderful story.
In all the pics you see of that couple and their baby, you can tell they absolutely adore her and that she's their absolute joy. I'm so pleased he agreed to help.

I'm so sorry for your mom's friend and daughter.

11. Thank you
My former class mate is amazingly strong. Her mother can't believe how well she's doing, and how she's immediately moving on to help other families. She's attending a support group, but it's apparently not for her - most of the people there lost their children years ago, and she's already decided that she's not going to be held back by this.

God bless her.

It is a great story, and I didn't even think to post about it on DU. Bi-Baby suggested I do, so she deserves the credit. :)

17. Approachable, human, great wife, smarts, works hard.
Can we get him to run for office? ;)

He's doing a good thing by helping. SIDS has fallen off the radar, but it still kills too damn many babies a year. We need more research about what causes it and how to prevent it.
